5 Websites that Pay You to Write
Make Money Living Your Dream
I’ve been writing for almost my whole life. It’s something that I love to do, but eventually, you have to pay the bills too. Therefore, after doing a lot of research and actually signing up for these writing platforms, I have compiled a list of websites that pay you to do what you love.
1. Kindle
You can get paid on the Amazon Kindle platform to write short stories, poetry books, novellas, and novels. There are several different ways to distribute your writing on this platform.
If you write novellas, short stories, poetry books, or novels, you can publish your books for a set price on the platform, allowing others to get a copy of your latest piece after payment. You can also put these books into paperback or hardback form for those readers that don’t like to read online. Amazon also has a Kindle Select program, where you get paid for each page that is read by the consumer. However, Kindle Select is an exclusive deal, so you cannot put your pieces on any other platforms while you are enrolled.
2. Kindle Vella
This is a platform under Kindle. However, it is designed for people that want to publish chapters or episodes. You get paid for each read that you receive, and you are able to publish a piece as long as it is at least 600 words. I do have to note that the first three chapters or episodes will be free to the consumer as that is standard. Also, if you publish on this platform, your work cannot be available anywhere else.
3. Smashwords
Like Kindle, Smashwords also allows you to publish your books, short stories, and poetry work. However, Smashwords is only available in eBook format, and upon submitting your work, you must abide by their formatting guidelines. Smashwords does, however, distribute your work to a number of retailers in various countries, which can help you get your writing out to the world.
4. Draft2Digital
Draft2Digital also publishes novellas, novels, and poetry books. This platform distributes to several retailers as well, but they allow you to create both an eBook and a paperback version of your work. The formatting guidelines on this site are easy to follow as they have technology that pretties up your work before they put it into an eBook or paperback. They also have teasers, chapter selections, and an also by page that they can add to your work in case a reader wants to read more of your writings.
5. Vocal Media
Vocal Media is similar to Medium. You can publish articles on this site, and you get paid per read. There aren’t as many features as Medium though. You can basically read and heart each article. However, if you have articles that you have written and want to distribute them further, this may be the place to do that. Also, there are a variety of subject areas in which you can write, ranging from technology to fiction. Also, authors get bonuses for various actions, like writing a specific number of articles and sometimes reading a large amount of articles on the site along with their pay per read.
So, if you find yourself in a jam and need to find more than one way to pay your bills, don’t give up on writing. Just be creative. If you have several poems, put them into a book and send them to Kindle, Draft2Digital, and/or Smashwords. If you are in the process of writing a book and want to submit it chapter by chapter, turn to Kindle Vella, and if you have written more articles than you know what to do with, check out Vocal Media.
