Women Who Podcast Awards Announced

Recognition for female indie podcasters well overdue

By Frank RacioppiPublished 5 months ago 4 min read

The Women Who Podcast Awards were announced last week by the Women Who Podcast Magazine. Listen to Kathy Barron, who is the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Women Who Podcast magazine: “Women podcasters are a vital presence in the podcasting world, and it’s about time a publication gave them the accolades that they deserve.”

I’ve checked out several issues, and the magazine is superbly designed, written, and organized. Moreover, like Ear Worthy, the magazine supports indie podcasters. The publication addresses often overlooked and ignored themes that affect podcasting, specifically the challenges of being a female indie podcaster, the contributions they make to the industry, and the value they bring to listeners. You can subscribe here. The current issue discusses ageism in podcasting.

Two of the Women Who Podcast award winners have been nominated for an Ear Worthy Award, which will be announced on August 26. The Ear Worthy Award is dedicated to recognizing the achievements of independent podcasters. Ear Worthy is proud that almost 50 percent of the nominees are women, and that’s in an industry where men dominate over 80 percent of the podcasting industry.

We asked them for a comment on receiving the Women Who Podcast Award.

Jenn Trepeck, creator/ host of Salad With A Side Of Fries, won a Stellar Award. Jenn says, “First, the importance of awards that highlight women in the male-dominated podcast industry is hard to overstate. Further, Women Who Podcast Magazine’s awards support the independent creators who are often under the radar, not getting the same attention as celebrity-hosted shows, yet make a powerful difference in listeners’ lives.”

Jenn continues: “As first-place winner of the stellar interview category, I’m honored and truly proud. Having no formal training in journalism or interviewing, this is a testament to the time, attention, and care I put into my preparation, genuine curiosity, and mission to change the state of healthcare by empowering listeners to reclaim their health.”

Jenn has been nominated for two Ear Worthy Awards — one for Best Health & Wellness Podcast and one for Best Indie Podcast of the Year.

Jennica Sadwhani, creator/host of the Multispective podcast, has been nominated for an Ear Worthy Award in the Best Life Lessons Podcast category. Jennica won the Women Who Podcast Award in two categories — Profound Nugget and Best in Show.

Jennica says, “A huge thank you to the Women Who Podcast Magazine and the award judges. I submitted a clip from an episode where my guest, Megan, discussed how a traumatic and painful year led her to leave her life as she knew it and live in the wild. The way she described her time there, the inspiration she got from nature, and how she found herself in the wild really changed me; it stuck deep.”

Jennica continues: “It’s validating to come in first place in the Profound Nugget category and Best In Show. I’m so grateful to the Women Who Podcast Magazine.”

Check out the Women Who Podcast Magazine. It’s run by Kathy Barron (Founder & Editor-in-Chief), who is an author, video editor, and host/producer of Women Who Sarcast podcast.

When she isn’t working on the magazine, you can find her riding her e-bike around town and spending time in and near the water.

Chelsea Pegues — a writer and copy editor for the magazine, is a writer and proofreader based in the Hudson Valley area of New York. Currently, she is working on various freelance projects and is writing a memoir based on her experience as the child of a parent struggling with addiction. Thriving on copious amounts of coffee, hiking, and spending time with her family, (including a deranged mini-poodle) she’s constantly adding new writing pieces to her website.

For podcast fans, Women Who Podcast Magazine offers you new indie podcasts led by women, every issue. I’ve already added these four women’s indie podcasts to my queue.

Podcasts like Grief & Light, Love Your Calm, Nacho Fitness Coach, and La Vida Más Chévere de Childfree Latinas.
