Who Is Ki$ama?

Ki$ama is an American Hip-Hop artist hailing from Cleveland, OH. After serving 6.5 years in the Air Force--Ki$ama stayed in Tucson, AZ; where he decided to pursue music and content creation full-time. He describes his love for music as a form of therapy for not only the creator but, the listener as well. "If you're the type of person who doesn't open up as easily, music is a way to escape. I've found myself in a lot of situations where I could turn on Bone Thugz N-Harmony and find solace in my situation". All though inspired by many -- Big L, Lil Wayne, Biggie Smalls, Juice Wrld, and Jim Morrison are some of the artists he has studied over the years.

One way Ki$ama cuts through the noise is by providing: clever wordplay, catchy melodies, and a variety of flows. "I love to experiment and challenge myself. I want anyone listening to be mentally stimulated. It's you vs you every day, nobody else." In 5 years time, he aspires to be working with some of the top producers and artists in the music industry. "It's never about the accolades or flexing, but really, pushing the envelope of what's possible if you apply yourself." With little experience in music and being as introverted as he was, Ki$ama had a passion and a drive that would be the source of his fuel for the years to come. "The military was mentally draining, to say the least. Music was one thing that grounded me throughout my time in. It also funded studio time and other expenses."

Ki$ama wants to impact the world in a positive way, through the medium of music. Encouraging people to live a healthier lifestyle, rather than advocating something detrimental to a person's well-being. By putting a focal point on motivational & inspirational lyrics, Ki$ama hopes to serve as a sense of refreshment to the listener. Currently, a large majority of Ki$ama's work remains vaulted. "There has been a significant amount of growth from then to now. I want people to discover me at the best stage of my artistry."

Tik Tok became a game changer for Ki$ama when he started going LIVE to review upcoming artists' music. "I have never seen an app so amazing for discovery and creation. Doing music reviews has allowed me to tap in with other artists and creatives alike; whilst networking and building a community simultaneously." He mentions the importance of consistency and experimentation. "Another perk of doing these reviews is that-- I'm forced to listen to different songs, styles, and genres."

One tip Ki$ama thinks is the most important for any artist to remember, is that you shouldn't be so hard on yourself and that evolution is a process. He says social media and what we have been taught have tarnished our views of self-worth and expectations. "Competing with an unrealistic standard is a battle that you will never win. Comparing numbers and metrics from celebrities who are trying to maintain an image."

Looking at what's next, Ki$ama plans to continue building his social presence online. "Being an artist means you take on many different responsibilities. If you're a one-man team, it's your job to hold yourself accountable." Currently, he has 60 monthly followers and by the end of 2023, he wants to reach over 1,000. "I've always been reluctant to work on improving my numbers because of how many bots and fake streams saturate the streaming platforms. Under no circumstance has the image of success ever outweighed the desire to genuinely help people through the power of music." With more traction slowly building each day, it's no surprise that Ki$ama will crush his goals!
