Getting to know the Wattpad authors

By Chloe GilholyPublished 6 years ago 6 min read

Love Star Wars, Marvel, books and films ♥️

Chloe Gilholy: What made you become a writer?

DazzieSh: I’ve been writing ever since I was little, and I just never stopped! I love how writing can give you the freedom to say what you want, and you can imagine anything. It takes me away from the stressful reality I currently live in.

What brought you to Wattpad?

I was looking for an app to write on, and I tried out loads, but Wattpad was by far the best.

What is the latest project you’re working on?

A book called Run Away with Me, which is kind of an adventure, dystopian thing.

Have you ever been published outside of Wattpad?

No.

What’s your greatest achievement as a writer?

I know it sounds stupid, but finishing a book. It’s something I rarely manage to do, and if I manage it, the ending is usually rushed. I’ve only finished a book that I’m actually proud of once or twice.

What are your writing goals?

Currently, to finish the book I’m writing. In the long run, publish a book and maybe one day write film scripts!

What’s your favourite thing about writing for Wattpad?

I like the way you can share your work with anyone and they can give you feedback, etc.

What are your pet peeves about writing for Wattpad?

Probably that if you don’t have many followers, not many people see your work. Also, it annoys me when people don’t give you feedback, so you have no idea what you’re doing right and what you’re doing wrong.

Aside from Wattpad, are there any other sites you’ve written for?

Not really, it’s always been Wattpad. Before that I used to write by hand in notebooks.

Where do you see your writing journey in five years?

Not sure at the moment... but hopefully I’ll at least have finished one book! I guess I want people to be reading my books and to feel that my writing has improved.

How would you feel about someone making fanwork based on your stories?

I think I’d be flattered, and happy about it, as long as they asked me first.

Which Wattpad books that you’ve written do you feel best displays your writing talents?

Run Away with Me, since it’s the only book I’ve published on Wattpad.

1. I have loved to write since i was fifteen and wanting to be a writer really came out of nowhere for me. I have a need to write and create stories that i would love to read and it grew into a passion from there.

2. I have been a fanfiction reader for years and Wattpad has always been a big source of me reading it. After reading other people's work i finally took the leap to put my own story up.

3. Hunted a pack novel is my latest work. I love writing Paranormal romance both in the young adult and adult genre and Hunted is no different. Its a werewolf biker romance.

4. While i haven't been published outside of Wattpad yet it is a goal of mine which i am getting closer to each day.

5. Honestly my greatest achievement as a writer so far has just been finishing a full novel. That and seeing people's happy comments about how much they are enjoying my characters and story.

6. Ideally i would love to be a published author and to have that as my career.

7. The way in which Wattpad is set up. You write a decent length chapter and as soon as you post it you can have people reading an enjoying it right away. its the convenience of having people around the world being able to read your work. The community is also a favourite thing of mine as i have made some really good friend on Wattpad.

8. The glitches and sometimes the rankings can be a bit of a peeve of mine but i figure that most people have an issue with these :)

9. Years ago i gave a crack at archive of our own with a OG Roswell fanfiction.

10. if i was looking into the Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter right now i would see myself on my second or third book tour. But honestly i would love to be an author for my primary career in five years time.

11. I know some people have an issue with Fanwork based on their stories but i would always welcome it. it would be amazing if someone spent their hard earned free time working on a fanwork of one of my stories and i would always want to be tagged

12. So far Hunted is my only actual wattpad book that i have written (i do have a walking dead fanfiction on there too). Really it reflects the things that i like to read and yes some people may call werewolf stories cliched but a cliche is a cliche for a reason; because people have loved to read them.

thank you so much for the opportunity and some really good questions.

Writicious

1. What made you become a writer?

I don’t know, I’ve always loved reading, even before I could read I just couldn’t wait until I could understand those mysterious things called letters. From the moment I learned to read I also started writing my first short stories (read: very short stories, sometimes only a few sentences). I tried to write a book when I was ten or so, but I couldn’t stay focused long enough on one project to finish anything and by the age of 14 I gave up. Fortunately, I rediscovered writing again a few months ago and I haven’t been able to let it go since. I also find it much easier to focus on one project at the time now that I’m older, although I keep a notebook with all my other ideas :)

2. What brought you to Wattpad?

Google, haha. I’d never heard of Wattpad actually (I’m an internet noob) and when I was looking online for some kind of website or group to get feedback on my story, I came across Wattpad. Immediately I liked the look and feel of it, so I decided to create an account, and it has not disappointed so far!

3. What is the latest project you’re working on?

It’s a Harry Potter fanfic called Evelyn Ross and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I’ve never been a fan of fanfic myself before I started this project, but I find that it’s a great way to practice your writing skills without immediately slipping over difficult things such as world building. That’s the next step, though!

4. Have you ever been published outside of Wattpad?

Nope, unfortunately not.

5. What’s your greatest achievement as a writer?

Uhm… getting more than 1k reads on my story? I don’t think I’ve achieved much yet, haha.

6. What are your writing goals?

First of all; finishing a book! But I’m nearly there! After that I want to edit the story, hopefully I will see some improvement when comparing my writing style in the beginning of the book to the last part.

7. What’s your favourite thing about writing for Wattpad?

That’s definitely the feedback from people who read my book. It is so fulfilling when someone really likes it (and lets you know in the comments!). It just makes me so happy! Although, it’s also fine if people don’t like it, especially if they can give me some constructive feedback on how I can improve my writing skills.

8. What’s your pet peeves about writing for Wattpad?

I don’t like it that our own reads add up to the read total, or that we can vote on our own stories (if we don’t like it, we don’t publish it, right?). It makes me hold back on editing, because I know that when I edit a chapter the read count will increase again. Since my book will be around 60 chapters when done, this will increase read count very quickly. Don’t get me wrong, of course I want to get high read (and vote) counts, but it just doesn’t feel as great when most of them are your own…

9. Aside from Wattpad, are there any other sites you’ve written for?

Nope.

10. Where do you see your writing journey in five years?

Hopefully, I will have increased my skills a lot and who knows, maybe they’ll be good enough to finally work on a book that’s publishable 

11. How would you feel about someone making fanwork based on your stories?

That would be incredibly cool! Something like that would be a major compliment to my work!

12. Which Wattpad books, that you’ve written do you feel best displays your writing talents?

Apart from my current work, I entered a short story in a Wattpad contest some time ago. It won third prize! It’s about a girl who wants to become a Grim Reaper and is facing a major dilemma. I practiced using metaphors and I tried to create a sinister atmosphere. The feedback on this story was very good, so I suppose this story shows my talents best.
