Last week, Vivid Magazine had the pleasure of attending the vibrant Treasure Tress pop-up event at John Lewis in Westfield Stratford. From the moment we arrived, we were met with friendly faces, high-energy vibes, and an undeniable atmosphere of Black female empowerment. The setup was a bold celebration of all things pink—think bright pink lockers, basketballs, and decor that transformed the space with an unapologetically fun and powerful energy.

Meeting the Treasure Tress Team

We were lucky enough to chat with some of the talented team behind Treasure Tress: Javetta, the content strategist; Ruth, the creative director; and, of course, Jamelia, the founder of the UK and Europe’s largest subscription box for natural hair products. Each of them brought their own perspective on what makes Treasure Tress such a unique brand.

Ruth shared insights into her journey with the brand, recalling that Jamelia was one of her very first clients. She spoke about how inspiring it is to work with such a supportive, creative team that’s committed to integrity. “Bringing ideas to life can be challenging, but that’s what makes it so fun,” she said. “We’ll always find a way!”

When asked for advice, Ruth emphasised the importance of getting hands-on experience. “It’s key to have both knowledge and passion behind you,” she said. Clearly, her own passion shines through everything she does with the brand!

Meet the Founder: Jamelia

We also got to hear from Jamelia herself, who is celebrating nine years in business this month—congratulations, Jamelia! Her story is truly inspiring. She launched Treasure Tress while working full-time in finance and eventually decided to take the leap and focus on her business full-time. Her motivation? Her three nieces. “I wanted them to see that their hair is beautiful. Growing up, I felt that straight hair was the beauty standard, and I want them to embrace their natural beauty just as they are.”

Jamelia also mentioned that she might consider opening a retail store someday to complement the online experience. “Our customers really enjoy connecting with our team, especially when they see people who reflect their diversity. It makes a real difference,” she explained. Imagine how amazing a Treasure Tress store would be!

For anyone thinking of starting a business, Jamelia has some great advice: “Accept help—you don’t have to do everything alone. Lean on friends and mentors; it’s okay to have support.” Her journey is a reminder that even the most driven entrepreneurs benefit from a supportive community.
