What was the inspiration behind the classic EP "Blu Leisure"?

JAMES: Well I wanted to create something that was innovative, timeless, and something that opened the skope of what creativity was at the time. Most didn't know that is was my debut project as an artist which also made it very special to me. I went into with the notion that I don't have any expectations, and lets just see how people perceive the music. The cherry on top was working artists that I've grew up listening to at an early age to know featuring them on my body of work.

How did you come up with the name "Blu Leisure"?

JAMES: The name came from several things, but mainly being that blue is my favorite color which also represents tranquility. Leisure represents the comfort in whatever your doing. I felt like those combinations embodied what I wanted to express at the time through music. It was also shock value as well in the sense of people would be intrigued by the name itself to want to listen.

Who did you work with on the EP?

JAMES: I've had the pleasure of working with artists like Whodini, Tony Terry, Sonna, and Kalenna of Diddy Dirty Money on the project. I also mixed the body of work with Styalistic who is a dope engineer as well.

Do you typically have a writing process when you’re sitting down to start your new projects?

JAMES: I don’t really have a specific process, but once I have an idea I most times start with melodies to start the flow, and craft the production around it. After that I begin writing the lyrics towards it. It’s all about feeling.

When you think of some of your musical inspirations, what were things that made them standout?

JAMES: That’s a long list, but off the top: Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Nile Rodgers, A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and so many others. They all have similar things in common which are they did not sound the same. They’ve all brought signature, and groundbreaking art to the industry. Also being a true musician at a very young age I’ve always admired the technology side of music as it progressed throughout the years. From analog to digital, hardware, software, etc. It all inspires me to stay creative.

Tell our readers about your new projects, and what they can expect?

JAMES: I’ve recently released two new singles as collaborations with other artists. I have one with Khujo Goodie entitled "All Night", and one with Robin S. entitled "One More Thing". The EP is a blend of R&B/Pop, and Dance to give a diverse feel for existing, and new fans. I am also currently working on my debut album entitled "Nevermind What They Said".

James Artissen’s sound is truly timeless and his collaborations simply add to his traditional r and b sound. This modest producer is still capturing the hearts, and ears of music lovers worldwide. We can’t wait to hear his next chart topping sound.
