R.E.A.L. Talk Self with Silvia Gina Hunt, Episode 18
Unity in Diversity with Silvia Gina Hunt and Dr. Min Va’Mon Prince.

R.E.A.L. Talk Self returned to the MNN Studios on April 13, 2018, for another stimulating discussion that delved into issues of spirituality, unity, and human advancement. In Episode 18, Silvia Gina Hunt welcomed Dr. Min Va'Mon Prince, the pastor of the AUM Institute, for a profound conversation about philosophy, faith, and how common values can strengthen communities. The conversation that followed was more than just an interview; it was a sincere investigation of how belief systems can cross conventional lines and aid in the discovery of human common ground.
Hunt established the tone right away with her friendly, captivating demeanor, pointing out that it had been a while since the last Talk Self episode but guaranteeing that the conversation today would be well worth the wait. Dr. Prince, her guest, immediately identified himself as the founder and pastor of the AUM Institute, a self-contained spiritual community that purposefully defies established norms. The Institute meets every Wednesday from noon to three at different locations, in contrast to traditional churches. Prayer and meditation take up the first hour, with the rest of the time being used for community involvement, conversation, and fellowship. According to Dr. Princ, this adaptable model reflects their wish to steer clear of overly formality and instead create a warm, contemporary space for people of all ages.
The origin story of the Institute was one of the most interesting parts of the discussion. Four men from various backgrounds and religious traditions founded the AUM Institute in 1990. Dr. Prince himself did not follow a formal religion at the time, but one had roots in the Nation of Islam and another in the Ansarullah community. The group looked for values that would benefit humanity as a whole—common principles—instead of debating doctrinal differences. Their shared vision was further enhanced when a member of the Five Percent Nation joined later. They came together to create a nondenominational spiritual framework that placed more emphasis on common truths than opposing ideologies.
Dr. Prince clarified that although the Institute takes inspiration from a variety of sources, including the Bible, the Qur'an, Buddhist teachings, ancient Egyptian wisdom, and more, it does not compel its members to embrace any particular doctrine. Rather, they emphasize universal principles like empathy, decency, integrity, and the empowerment of the individual and the community. They think that every tradition has timeless lessons, and by highlighting these similarities, they make room for people from different backgrounds to come together peacefully.
Crucially, the AUM Institute is more than just a philosophical or intellectual endeavor. Additionally, the community is focused on families. Dr. Princ emphasized how children are accepted into events by being surrounded by an atmosphere that teaches them responsibility, respect, and compassion at a young age rather than by strict Sunday school regimens. The Institute places a strong emphasis on developing character in ways that kids can naturally absorb, whether that be through storytelling, adapted songs, or small deeds of kindness.
The conversation also touched on more general human issues, such as poverty, inequality, growing living expenses, and the difficulties of day-to-day existence. According to Dr. Prince, spirituality and these realities are inextricably linked. He clarified, "We know that we just cannot follow what the government says, so we need religion and spirituality in the world." Hunt concurred, pointing out that genuine humanism and faith are demonstrated by deeds rather than words: fostering compassion, assisting others, and fostering harmony across racial, socioeconomic, and national divides.
Hunt expressed his gratitude to Dr. Prince as Episode 18 of R.E.A.L. Talk Self came to an end, stressing the value of voices like his in religious and public discourse. Collectively, they demonstrated how spirituality, which is based on human dignity and common values, can heal divisions, arouse empathy, and serve as a reminder to viewers that we are all members of the same human family.
