PIFF: Who is Primadona TXF and what does the name represent?

TXF: My given name is Japri. I’m the youngest of 4 and we have all Jays. Josh, Jacob, Joleesa, Japri. How Primadona came about is that I'm a fan of Madonna – I admire her whole style, her movement and everything, and how she led with the LGBQT community and just being there for that and helping us represent. So, that’s how you got Primadona; plus I’m over the top, little do most know because I’m laid back most of the time.

That name came about in 2016 / 2017 and everybody was calling me “Baby” at the time. And then someone was like, ‘Primadona’ and that stuck with me. TXF formed in 2018 because there’s another artist out there named Primadona. She did a song with Young Thug and a few others, so she’s up there. It’s spelled the same, so I can’t trademark it; so I changed it to Primadona TXF. It took a few months to come up with the name, so I’m like, ‘it has to mean something’ - so, you know, I was hit by a truck at the age of 15 and when they stitched my head up, it created an X. If you think about it in math..... the X Factor! So, that’s how Primadona TXF was born.

PIFF: When did you first start pursuing music as a career and when did it start coming together for you?

TXF: That was definitely 2018; because thing is, I wrote my first song when I was 9; I recorded my first time ever in the studio when I was 13. I made a song off of our childhood called ‘Simon Says’. My cousin Ray made the beat; shout-out to him – he in the Army right now, travelling around Japan, doing the technology. He made the beat and everything and I recorded it, so everyone in Jackson – after I released it – they knew who I was.

I’m the youngest of 4, so I was always sitting back in the cut. You wouldn’t even know who my brothers and sisters were because I was so different and set back from them. But my city is small, so Jackson known Jackson. I would say around 15 when I got hit, Primadona was breaking out. I got hit and it changed my mentality.

PIFF: When you got hit, did you almost die? Did you see your life flash before your eyes?

TXF: What happened is I was crossing the street – the whole system had it so I was on probation. They tried to take me off the bus, they wanted me to talk to them or whatever. My sister ended up throwing hands with the police to protect me because she was trying to protect me because she seen this happening while I was in handcuffs. We 15 and we on probation for fighting the police, but really protecting ourselves because that wasn’t supposed to be the case... our probation officer had a vendetta against my sister and school had got cancelled due to a snowstorm... she said if we didn’t make it home by a certain time, we were going to get violated – she probably thought we ain’t have no respect for the police, fighting them and whatnot, but that wasn’t the case. So, we didn’t want to miss the bus because if we would’ve missed that bus, we would’ve got locked up.

So, me and my sister, we going across the street – I remember her pulling me back real quick. A few seconds later, the lights change real quick. Me and my sister running in the street, so we could catch the bus real quick! Next thing I know, I hear a horn beep – I look to my left and I remember seeing a white car – I look to my right and the lady just dropped her phone and after that, I remember seeing myself standing there and it’s like I was looking at me.

PIFF: So, you had an out-of-body experience?

Primadona TXF

TXF: My coat had caught on to the grill of the Durango, which made it where I was wrapped onto the grill and the tire was pushing me, plus it was slippery outside from the slush of the snowstorm. The whole time I was being dragged, I was seeing this dessert and it’s like this dust was being spun up. That’s all I seen. And then it just stopped. And I just got up and started looking for my shoes – I'm looking for my one shoe and I just remember a bunch of people running up to me and telling me to sit down. The pain was so intense, I didn’t know what was happening. Two guys from my neighborhood saw it happen and I was asking them what happened because I felt like my whole top mouth was gone and they were like, ‘nah, it’s just your two front teeth.’

Once I was in the ambulance, I started feeling myself giving out – feeling tired, going to sleep – and all of a sudden, I felt like I was in a different realm and I was singing – and I feel like somewhere in the midst of it all, Japri died and Primadona was born. I healed quick in 2 weeks and I was a completely different person ever since. And now, my whole story is my life and I’m turning a lot of it into a comic book. Becoming TXF – I'm a comic character; and I’m working on the second one, which is Planet X.

PIFF: So, when you came out of that accident and you ended up getting out the hospital and healing up and everything, that’s pretty much when you broke into the identity of Primadona and started pursuing your music dreams?

TXF: Yeah.

PIFF: So, ‘Love Me Now’ was your first single?

TXF: Yup - ‘Love Me Now’ and ‘On Bible.’ ‘Love Me Now’ was my first video off my EP Premeditated with ‘On Bible’, ‘Ride or Die’, ‘All Pros’, and ‘Jelly’... that’s all produced by Boss Hog Records and Alfonzo AJO who mixed and did all the sound engineering. And Kyla McLaughlin came from the city and did my videos and stuff – and her fiancé now is my marketing manager. I would really consider them friend of the family like you and Ri Royal.

PIFF: So, what’s the drive behind Litty Identity and how did you come up with that idea?

TXF: Litty Identity? That’s what we living in right now – we living in our tenacious years – it's an acronym. Everybody thinks it’s litty like, ‘let’s get lit, let’s get lit’. Well, we goin’ definitely get lit – I'm goin’ give you the best energy you’ve ever felt and it could be done without any type of drugs. When I made it, I wanted it to represent me as something that meant something and that’s how I came with tenacity. That is my identity.

PIFF: Out of Michigan, who are some of your favorite artists you’ve worked with in the past and who are some that you’d like to do a collaboration with?

TXF: DJ Trippy did my newest EP and we got a track on there together called ‘Dead Presidents’. As a female, I’d love to work with Kelsey Lynn again; I’ve always looked up to her – we’ve done some stuff together in the past and she had me open up at her show with Nisha Neshae. We finished out 2019 strong with that one.

PIFF: So, I see you got your autobiography now... I want to ask what the fans can expect out of this book?

TXF: Well, some of the questions you asked here are covered in the book, but it’s going to go in a little deeper. I’m going to give you a little background on my family and my upbringing and how I was raised. The whole step-by-step of my grind, but it’s also just like a preview for y’all because I’m going to also have the Untold Primadona TXF Chronicles coming too, as a chapter book. It’s going to also match the TV episodes we’re going to have with my show as I’m doing the different chapters in the book, we’ll be releasing the TV episodes at the same time.

PIFF: What made you feel that it was your time to share your whole life story with your audience?

TXF: I was working so hard grinding with the music and everything and my fans kept asking me about my life story, so I figured it’s about time right now. I’m reaching my highest pinnacles at the lowest points in my life, so I wanted my fans to know what happened from the beginning and I also want them to know from my point of view because so many people try to tell your story for you, but they leave so much out because they weren’t even truly there to witness it all.

PIFF: I see what you’re doing here and I like it – you're branding yourself on all aspects. A lot of people are all over the place – they'll jump into a bunch of different ideas, but it will be all scategorized to the point where it doesn’t really flow together, it doesn’t really make sense. I see what you’re doing with yours and I believe you’re going to end up being a multi-entrepreneur. How do you keep everything going on days when you feel like it’s not working out?

TXF: I realize it’s so much more. My first year, I only invested $1,000 into myself and I did it all for publicity. So, if I stop now and I did everything I did with just that, I can’t stop now – I'm in the PJs and I’m making progress and giving my children something positive to look forward to, so you have to push through no matter what and plant your seeds – my aunt told me to find your focal point – and I’ve always did that when it was time to deliver. My focal point is up, so why would I look down or look backwards? I gotta keep looking up and looking forward.

PIFF: When will you feel like you actually made it to where you want to be? What does success look like for Primadona TXF?

TXF: Right now, I feel like I’m walking in my purpose and I’m successful already! Everything has just been coming in my favor from ideas, connections, networking, even the money flow has increased from my grind. Yesterday, I was told that I’m a public figure in my town and to most people, that ain’t big, but most people only get that love from everywhere else but in their town; so to be actually in my town and making that mark... it feels great!

The mayor has blessed our town with a thing called The Launch Pad; so I go to this business meeting every Friday and I’ve learned so many business tips and made so many connections that have helped us to build our brand and help strengthen the Black community. I’m getting my hands into the cannabis industry. And that’s where the Lit Tea came from – so now, I got tea that promotes healthiness and helping with different chronic pains and mental health and just relaxation – all the benefits you need. That’s what I’m after too is helping others because it’s bigger than me. I just want to keep reaching out and striving for that and dropping my seeds for the future generations.

PIFF: How did Covid-19 affect your grind?

TXF: It was definitely a reinvention time. A failed moment to me is not really a failed moment, it’s a lesson. When Covid hit, even though it stopped me from doing shows, it pushed me to create Litty Identity and build that business side of it.

PIFF: That’s dope. So, where do you want to be at and what do you want to have accomplished in these next 5 years?

TXF: That’s where I’m definitely trying to sit back and be like the golden Hov. I mean that in the most humble way – what I mean is that I want to open up so many doors and create so many avenues that every time you hear about me, it’s going to be Litty Identity everywhere you look and it’s going to go back into everyone else and the uplifting of my community. Establishing foundations and in dedication to my children, I want to have a place called A Place From Home which is going to be a home. Every unit is going to have their own studio apartment set with its own little bathroom and kitchen – I want arcade rooms, basketball, with a library... I can see that manifesting over the next few years.

PIFF: Tell us about the Litty Baked Buds. What’s their purpose and where are you looking to take them?

TXF: Litty Baked Buds – that came by accident; like a beautiful miracle. My partner Ashley and I were trying to create a flyer and we were having a Puff & Paint event and as we were trying to create the flyer, we came up with an avatar with no face and I started thinking that I could do so much with this visual idea. So, I decided I wanted to create my own tea that not only was healthy, but also helped with mental health. I had that ‘70s Show type of vibe in my mind and I came up with the Litty Baked Buds which became a whole new brand idea. My tea and the Litty Baked Buds came together to promote a whole new idea of wellness outside of just edibles.

PIFF: That’s amazing! I love the creativity. Ever since you began your grind, you’ve become one of our biggest supporters of P.I.F.F. What made you want to join the movement and rep the cause so hard?

TXF: Because of how y’all move. Y’all are family and y’all whole message and purpose aligns with what I’m going for in my life. I love what you guys represent and what your team does for the underground. On top of that, my brother does music too and he’s been locked up for about 10 years now and his name is Jack Piff. So, when y’all reached out, I had just dropped “On Bible’ which was dedicated to my brother and I released that track on his birthday and at the same time, we started connecting and I felt that the energy and the timing was so aligned.

PIFF: Has The Marathon with P.I.F.F. helped you at all?

TXF: It helped me beyond more than words can express. I tell people all the time that they gotta meet P.I.F.F. You and Ri Royal are just so authentic and I love people like you guys. You featured me in the ‘Boss Issue’ in 2019 and the placement [of my feature] was so perfect – you had me placed me right behind Danileigh as she’s coming up and right before Nipsey Hussle – I was centered right between someone who is on their way to becoming a legend and someone who already is a major legend.

PIFF: So, I know you got your hands in a lot right now... what projects are you currently working on now and what can the fans expect from you next?

TXF: I’m currently pushing out my EP right now - ‘Chem X’ - it’s only 3 tracks, but I gave the world 3 different parts of me so they can understand the different sides of me. It’s Primadona TXF everything, so I’m going to be putting out my album next year and it’s going to correlate with everything else I’ve got going on.

PIFF: How can the people get a hold of you to support you or work with you?

TXF: It’s @primadonatxf on everything or @littyidentity or @littybakedbuds. You can get an interview at Lit Tea Talk Podcast. For bookings as an artist, it’s definitely [email protected] and on the business side, it’s Litty Identity LLC if anyone is looking to endorse or sponsor us. And the same thing as far as Litty Baked Buds. Mental awareness really matters and I want to help with that, so you can hashtag any of those and you’ll be able to get in contact with me – I'm on all social media and YouTube. I’m doing everything, whether it’s modeling, writing, music, anything – I'm looking to get involved with many projects.

PIFF: Any words of advice for people just getting going in this industry?

TXF: Believe in yourself and don’t wait to get going – just go with it because the biggest step is the first step. And never let anyone make you feel that your dream is little because there’s nothing little about it – for you to just put yourself out there is a major effort and I want you to be confident in what you do and represent hard because these blessings come to those who keep pursuing their purpose!
