The film ‘La verbena’ has finished shooting in Barcelona, produced by Carla Fernández and directed by Rubén Sánchez (Joc de Nens, Furias, Una Mujer frente al Mar, Lamento) starring Gabriel d'Almedia, who starred in ‘Matthias & Maxime’, a film that competed for the Palme de Cannes in 2019 alongside German actor Robin Reese and Spanish actress Aidan Quintana.

The story tells the reunion of Alex - a young man who is about to become a father and struggles with the acceptance of his homosexuality - and Marc - his best friend, who brings with him a piece of news that they both have to come to terms with.
Producing the film is Carla Fernández, daughter of producer Carlos Fernández (Filmax), who is producing her first film. Sánchez and Fernández have teamed up to tell ‘this LGTBI-themed story to reflect the difficulty of accepting sexual identity’. Ferran Miret is the director of photography, Ammar El Hachemi is the production manager, Martí Estupinya is the cinematographer, Max Ponce is the assistant and Alberto Sáez is the soundman.

According to the young filmmaker, he based ‘the acting work on a relationship of trust between director and actors to build the characters’.

Synopsis of La verbena
On a warm summer night in Barcelona, Alex (Gabriel D'Almeida) and his girlfriend Anna (Aida Quintana) get together with their friends to enjoy a lively verbena. The unexpected arrival of Marc (Robin Reese), an old friend of Alex's from London, brings with him revelations that challenge their relationship and detonate their secrets. As the party progresses, the characters are forced to confront their own fears and desires amidst the festive atmosphere.
