The brisk air filled my lungs when I opened the door to check the weather, a sharp contrast from the warmth of my home. The early morning and its bitter glory, a spring symphony of chill and an awakening to another day. I had to zipper my jacket around just to leave, to fight against the biting cold. My cushioned water bottle and lunch were tucked under my arm, their weight a reminder of the drive and the day ahead. As I went to set the alarm, the metallic click echoed in the stillness. I quickly looked to ensure everything was ready as I left my wallet in my room without the familiar bulge of reassurance. I was so sure that I left my room with everything I needed to go to work. My rapid move upstairs just to get to my wallet, then back down to finally leave, I went for my keys. They were also not in my pocket either, so I placed everything back down to recover them. Finally, I had everything I needed to leave and set the alarm. It announces in the most annoying voice, but at least it protects the house when I am gone.
The bitter wind did not improve as I descended the stairs, hoping for no slickness. I did not care if my ears were too cold. I was out and not bothered by the alarm one more time. So, it was another chilly morning this lovely spring. It seems that the weather cannot improve fast enough. I scrambled to my car and pushed the open button. With the blink of the lights, I entered my vehicle, ready for the heat. It was an irritating morning, and I could be wrong if those annoying snow flurries were out. Work was still important, and I still had a long trip. For now, the defrost had to loosen the small amount of frost on my car. I was more inclined to spray my windshield wiper fluid and not bother scraping. The winter was long enough to even extend now.
The engine's hum was the only noise this morning since my phone was almost dead, and I was digging out a charger. Having time to clear my mind from the busy work week was nice. At least the road was mostly clear, as the darkness still existed. Only the hope of any cops since it would make my day worse than needed. The ride was as long as ever as the days seemed to blend. It did feel warmer as I was arriving by a few degrees. The lot was filled, so some searching was needed to find a decent spot. I was finally at work to stay inside and enjoy a heated office.
Reports do not finish themselves as I had so many emails to answer. It improved as I needed to lower the heat as the day continued. Spring is always an awkward time with shifts in weather, and trying to predict it is impossible. Still, the work world is ongoing, with more work still needed. I did not even look out at my window until the sun shone brightly on my computer screen, casting a warm glow over my desk. The heat could be real or just deceiving. That is nice outside. Yet there is no time, not even at lunchtime. The office was a hive of activity, with everyone focused on their tasks. All I wanted was to finish my work and start my trek home. It was long enough with every high and might boss wanting all their work done first, but I am only one person.
The shade could not ever stop the heat coming through the window. I had finally lowered all the heat down. Summer will be here soon enough, but the cold still lingers in the mornings and evenings. Though wanting to leave was distracting, I had a few more things to finish first. The longest time of the day is when you are about to be done. The workday was finally over at the turn of the clock. Everyone was ready to leave their cubicles in a mad rush to their cars, their excitement palpable. I stayed and sat till the masses left and returned to mine. I pulled my lunch and water bottle back into my arms with my jacket, eagerly anticipating the moment I could leave the office behind and return home.
I could feel the heat outside, and it was lovely. To see the sun on such a gorgeous day was a reward on such a morning. I was also getting hot in my jacket. This requires faster movement to my car as I shed the coat and sat in the beauty. This day could not make more sense since it was cold, but now it is warm. I did find the time to see my charger so I could have music. The windows were rolling down as I felt the wind. It seemed like a different day from the start. The threat of snow was nowhere. Traffic would be busy from the crowd, and the trip home would be way too long. Everyone is on the road; I only want to be home. I cannot complain about the weather despite its oddity of changing so quickly. Listening to music and feeling the wind will make up for a long, cold winter.
Spring is such an odd time of year, though, with its ever-changing weather but beautifully warm days. The rush hour could be worse. Arriving home was the best as I could finally sit to reflect on an absurd day. Having to grab my jacket, water bottle, and lunch. My keys were still in my pocket, but I did have to reach them. Then, despite the great weather, everything fell, and I was back where I had begun this morning. It's funny how a day can start with such promise and end in a flurry of forgotten items.
