The Naughty Monkeys and the Gentle Giraffe

BY ubaid

Deep in a lush green forest, there lived a lively troop of monkeys. Among them were two young ones who were the naughtiest of all. They were so mischievous that even their parents had grown tired of their endless pranks.

In the same forest lived a little giraffe — gentle, innocent, and kind-hearted. He was so simple-minded that everyone liked him. One bright morning, while grazing peacefully, the little giraffe wandered into the part of the forest where the troop of monkeys lived. The monkeys were busy picking fruits and leaves from the tall trees when the two naughty little ones noticed the strange newcomer.

They had never seen such a tall and oddly shaped creature before. One of them whispered excitedly, “Hey, look! What a weird animal! Let’s tease him!”

Jumping and swinging from branch to branch, they reached the tree under which the giraffe was calmly eating leaves. From a low branch, one of the monkeys called out, “Hey, long-neck! What’s your name?”

The giraffe looked up with his kind eyes and replied softly, “I’m a giraffe. Would you like to be my friends? What are your names?”

The monkeys burst into loud laughter. “Friends with you? Never!” one said mockingly. “You look so funny — a neck like a tower and legs like a ladder! Who would want to play with such an awkward creature?”

Before the poor giraffe could say anything, one of the monkeys plucked a ripe fruit and threw it straight at his face. It splattered all over, covering his cheeks with sticky pulp. The naughty monkeys howled with laughter, jumping away through the branches until they disappeared.

The giraffe stood silently, his eyes full of tears. With a heavy heart, he walked away into the deeper part of the forest.

A few days later, the two mischievous monkeys decided to explore the forest on their own. Early in the morning, while the rest of their troop was still asleep, they quietly slipped away. They swung through the trees, laughing and playing, feeling proud of their little adventure.

After a while, hunger struck them. They ate some fruits and continued their playful journey, unaware of how far they had gone. By noon, the sun was blazing, so they climbed up a shady tree to rest.

What they didn’t realize was that under that very tree lay a sleeping lion. It was the king of the forest, resting after his meal. A soft breeze rustled the grass, and bees buzzed lazily in the warm air. The scene was peaceful — until the lion let out a deep growl to chase away the flies buzzing around his face.

The monkeys froze. Their eyes widened in fear as they looked down and saw the mighty lion just below them. For a moment, they were too terrified to move — but then they reassured each other, whispering, “Don’t worry, he can’t climb trees. We’re safe up here.”

Soon, their mischievous nature took over again. They exchanged a naughty glance and decided to tease the lion. One of them plucked a fruit and dropped it right onto the lion’s nose.

The lion roared in rage, shaking his golden mane. He looked around furiously, and when he gazed upward, he saw the two monkeys laughing. “You foolish creatures!” he thundered. “Do you know who I am? I am the king of this forest! Come down right now, or I’ll make sure you regret this!”

The monkeys couldn’t stop giggling. But their laughter faded quickly when the lion crouched, muscles tensing, and leapt high into the air with a powerful roar. His sharp teeth glistened, and he came dangerously close to the branch where they sat.

The monkeys screamed in fear and clung to each other. The lion jumped again, almost reaching them. There was no one around to help — they had wandered too far from their family. The tree had no higher branches to climb, and no other trees were close enough to leap to. They were trapped.

Just then, a gentle voice came from above:
“Don’t be afraid! I’ll help you. Slide down onto my back — quickly, before the lion sees me!”

The monkeys looked up in disbelief — it was the same giraffe they had mocked days ago!

Ashamed, they glanced at each other. The giraffe didn’t seem angry at all. He calmly lowered his long neck, and the monkeys carefully slid down onto his back. The giraffe whispered, “Hold on tight!” and began to run as fast as he could.

When the lion realized what was happening, he roared and started chasing them. The ground thundered beneath his paws. The monkeys screamed, trembling in fear, but the giraffe called out, “Don’t worry! My long legs will save us!”

And indeed, they did. The giraffe’s long strides carried him swiftly across the field, leaving the lion far behind. Finally, they reached a safe part of the forest where the lion could no longer follow.

Panting with relief, the monkeys climbed down from the giraffe’s back. They looked at him with tears in their eyes.

The giraffe smiled gently and said, “You see, my friends, the same long neck and long legs you once laughed at — they saved your lives today. My neck helped me see you from far away, and my legs helped me run faster than the lion.”

The monkeys hung their heads in shame. They were speechless. After a moment, the giraffe chuckled softly. “Forget it,” he said kindly. “Let’s not talk about the past. From today, we’ll all be friends, right?”

The monkeys were deeply moved by the giraffe’s kindness. They hugged his neck and said, “We’re sorry for teasing you. From now on, we promise never to make fun of anyone again. You’re our best friend.”

The gentle giraffe smiled warmly. From that day on, the naughty monkeys were no longer mischievous. They played happily with their new friend — the kind-hearted giraffe — who had taught them that kindness is stronger than mockery, and that true beauty lies in a good heart.

Moral: Never make fun of others for how they look. Everyone is special in their own way — and kindness always wins in the end.
