1. INT. ZEKE’S HOUSE. MORNING. 1.

Zeke, a young teenager stands at his window staring off into the sunrise.

LUCY

(Yells from downstairs)

Zeke. Your friend is here!

COUNTINUOUS

2. INT. ZEKE’S HOUSE. MORNING. 2.

Zane stands at the bottom of the stairs. He is skinny wearing blue jeans and a yellow t-shirt. Zeke walks into view at the top of the stairs in his blue jeans and a red t-shirt.

Zeke sighs.

ZANE

Hurry up, Zeke! I found a new place to explore deep in the forest.

LUCY

Not pass the old blockade I hope?

ZANE

(Suspiciously)

Of course not miss L.

Lucy rolls her eyes.

ZANE (CONT’D)

Anyway, we are burning day light. Let’s get a move on.

LUCY

(Yells Out)

If you’re not staying for breakfast at least be back for lunch!

LUCY (CONT’D)

(Whispers to herself)

House to the self. Where’s my wine?

Lucy Sighs.

COUNTINOUS

3. EXT. FOREST PATH. MORNING. 3.

Zeke walks slowly behind Zane on a dirt path.

ZANE

I know we haven’t explored this area of the forest yet. I stumbled on the path earlier.

Zeke stares at Zane with a blank stare.

4. EXT. FOREST PATH. MORNING. EARLIER. 4.

Zane stands in front of a pond peeing into it. A group of older kids walk by and push him into the pond without stopping.

5. EXT. FOREST PATH. MORNING. PRESENT TIME. 5.

Zeke and Zane stop at a worn out blockade of wood and rusted warning signs.

ZANE

This is it. Come on, Zeke.

A group of older guys drinking beer come out from the woods.

SIMON

Look at these little homunculus.

Zane gasped, then smiled.

ZANE

Oh?

SIMON

What? What was that ‘Oh?’ For?

ZANE

Well at first thought I was thinking smart bullies and the thought to run away entered my mind, but then I realized you are just another meat dummy.

JAMES

Meat dummy? Kick this kid’s ass, Simon.

SIMON

Calm down James. Look kid, tell me what you meant.

Zeke and Zane look at each other. Zane sighs.

ZANE

Well, although you are right. We as individuals would be Homunculus, but since we are more than one person a plural would need to be implemented in this particular scenario.

SIMON

What?

ZANE

In other words, I knew you had heard the word and assumed by using it, you would seem smarter than you really are.

(Short Pause)

JAMES

Kick his ass, Simon!

SIMON

Damnit James! I’ll handle this.

ZANE

Maybe read the small print on your word a day calendar.

Zeke and Zane walk pass without fear.

SIMON

You little smart ass!

ZANE

Better than being a dumbass. The word was homunculi by the way.

Zeke and Zane walk pass the barricade and deeper into the forest.

CONTINUOUS

6. EXT. FOREST PATH. MORNING. 6.

(Quick images)

Zeke and Zane jump rocks across a stream. They pass thorny pushes. Zeke cuts his hand and sniffles with a tear in his eye. Zane shakes his head. They climb a small hill. A squirrel jumps out of a small hole in the dirt that Zeke sticks his hand into for stability. He falls to the ground and tries to pull it off his face.

7. EXT. OLD LAB. AFTERNOON. 7.

The boys make it to the top of a hill to find an old rundown building.

ZANE

What is this place?

LILLY

This is an old lab.

ZANE

(Surprised)

Who the hell are you guys?

A Young scientist and her assistant emerge from the bushes. Lilly, a nerdy girl with thick glasses and a doctor’s coat, and Moe. A slightly overweight young man.

LILLY

I’m DR. Lilly, and this is my assistant, Moe.

MOE

Hi!

Zeke looks at Lilly and smiles as if he is completely infatuated by her.

Continuous

8. EXT. MEADOW. AFTERNOON. Zeke’s Imagination. 8.

Zeke walks to Lilly. He picks a flower and hands it to her. He is about to sing when He is hit on the head.

COUNTINUOUS

9. EXT. OLD LAB. AFTERNOON. 9.

Zeke shakes his head.

ZANE

(Whispers)

(To Zeke)

Get your shit together. You’re embarrassing me.

ZANE (CONT’D)

I’m Zane and this is my friend, Zeke.

LILLY

Are you here to explore the lab?

ZANE

We didn’t know about it until just now.

LILLY

I see. Maybe two teams can join together for this adventure?

ZANE

I suppose that could work.

SIMON (V.O)

I think they went up here! Hurry up!

LILLY

Oh? More of your friends?

ZANE

No. They are a bunch of morons. If you two don’t mind we’d like to join you to explore the lab.

LILLY

Excellent, we could use the help. Moe, grab our bags.

ZEKE

Oh. It’s okay. I’ll carry them for you.

Zane walks by.

ZANE

(Whispers)

Keep it in your pants.

Lilly smiles and leaves Zeke alone with her bags. He farts with a sigh of relief. Lilly hears it, but pretends she doesn’t. Zane stops and lets Lilly pass him.

ZANE

Hey. Air that out before you joins us.

Lilly giggles.

CONTINUOUS

10. EXT. OLD LAB. AFTERNOON. 10.

Simon climbs up the hill. He looks down at his friends.

SIMON

Let’s go. Get up here!

JAMES

Look man. We are tired, and out of beer. Plus I have to work in the morning.

SIMON

All of you feel the same way?

They all walk away.

SIMON (CONT’D)

Fine I’ll get them myself. I don’t need you guys!

JAMES

(Yells back)

Yeah, but you might need a dictionary. Let us know what happens. Later!

SIMON

(In Anger)

Ah! Useless morons!

COUNTINUOUS

11. INT. OLD LAB. AFTERNOON. 11.

Zane and Lilly walk side by side with Zeke and Moe behind them.

ZANE

So, what do you know about this place?

LILLY

Not much more than you I imagine.

ZANE

Were you two just out exploring?

LILLY

Exploring? No. We are not children. I am a researcher and Moe is my assistant. I have heard a rumor that mushrooms grow in this forest.

ZANE

Mushrooms?

LILLY

That is correct. It is a false lead I’m sure, but I must confirm it for myself. The story is that a blue mushroom with a faint yellow glow grows here. Stumbling on this old laboratory has intrigued my interest. Depending on what this old laboratory was up to, the rumor my not be that farfetched after all.

ZANE

I see.

LILLY

And you two are explorers of some sort?

ZANE

I guess you could say that. Zeke and I moved to a small town not too far from here. We used to adventure all over the place, but we are going to two different colleges next year. This was my attempt to be a kid one last time.

LILLY

Ah. I can understand the reasoning. As childish as it is.

Short Pause

ZANE

(Jokingly)

Sure. Verbally kick me while I’m down.

LILLY

You seem well educated. Sure of himself, but not pretentious. What are you going to take in school?

ZANE

Engineer, but this was my last chance to do something. To find something.

Zeke puts on a bracelet he finds in a crate. He gets distracted and forgets he has it on.

LILLY

Something? Like a moron that stumbles on to something that gives them super powers?

ZANE

(Sighing)

Yeah. I wouldn’t say it like that, but yeah.

LILLY

It is childish, but you have a lifelong friend out of it. Everyone has a time in their life where they want to hold on to that belief that something great will happen. Unfortunately that isn’t reality.

ZANE

Maybe you’re right.

LILLY

I am right.

Zane sighs.

CONTINUOUS

12. INT. OLD LAB. AFTERNOON. 12.

Lilly walks into a room. Everyone follows.

LILLY

This room is…

ZANE

It’s clean.

LILLY

There is someone here.

Lilly points to a cup of coffee with steam coming from it. Zeke and Moe walk over to a machine and start pressing buttons

LILLY (CONT’D)

No! Don’t touch that!

Lilly runs over pushing Zeke aside. The room shakes. An orange portal opens. Lilly and Moe get sucked in.

ZANE

Zeke! Get away from there!

Zane runs toward him. They both get pulled into the portal. The portal closes. Simon enters the room.

SIMON

Gotcha! Huh? Where did they go?

A beautiful brunette woman in a doctor coat rushes into the room.

BETTY

Ah Damnit. I’m too late.

SIMON

Too late? For what? What’s going on? Who are you?

BETTY

My name is Betty Miller. Doctor Betty Miller, and those kids…

SIMON

What?

BETTY

Quiet. I have to think.

Betty starts pressing buttons at a computer.

SIMON

Well good luck with all that.

Betty presses a button to lockdown the room.

Simon

Hey Lady! You can’t lock me in here. Open the door.

BETTY

It’s too late. We have to go after them, and I can’t do it alone.

SIMON

Go after them? I don’t know those losers. Hard pass.

Betty presses a button. The portal opens.

BETTY

You are a big guy and I don’t like heavy lifting. Grab that box and follow me. Oh, and I’ll pay you.

Short Pause

SIMON

How much?

BETTY

What are you worth?

Short Pause

SIMON

One million dollars.

Short pause

BETTY

I’ll give you twenty bucks.

Short pause

SIMON

Sold.

He joins her and they walk into the portal.

13. EXT. DARK FOREST. AFTERNOON. 13.

Zeke and Zane roll out of the Orange portal.

ZEKE

Where the hell are we?

ZANE

It doesn’t look like we are in Kansas anymore.

A beautiful green skin woman with purple hair appears from the bushes.

KARRY

Get down!

Karry pulls a glowing pink whip with three ends and cracks it at a huge beast that had chased her.

ZANE & ZANE

(Yelling)

What the hell is that!?

Karry cracks the whip a few more times. It flees.

KARRY

That was a Leir. You walk this forest without weapons? Are you fools?

ZANE

Look lady, my friend and I just got here. We have no idea where here even is.

KARRY

Then you are fools.

ZEKE

Did you know that you are green?

Karry Sighs.

ZANE

(To Zeke)

How does that help?

ZEKE

(To Zane)

I don’t know. Maybe she didn’t know she was green.

ZANE

How would someone not know they were entirely green?

ZEKE

Maybe she doesn’t own a mirror?

ZANE

Even if she doesn’t own a mirror, she would have eventually have had to see her reflection.

ZANE (CONT’D)

(To Zeke)

Hold on.

(To Karry)

Excuse me. Hulk lady. Are you aware that you are green?

Karry gives them a blank stare with no response.

ZEKE

(To Zane)

See? She had no idea.

ZANE

(To Zeke)

That doesn’t prove anything. She didn’t reply.

ZEKE

Exactly!

KARRY

(Whispers)

You are both fools…

ZANE

Where are we? Who are you?

KARRY

This is Kingdom of Kansus. I am called Karry. We are at the edge of the kingdom in the forest of sorrows.

ZANE

Kansas State?

KARRY

The state of the kingdom is perilous. Lier’s have been appearing more frequently. These woods are not safe for travellers.

ZEKE

(To Zane)

I don’t think she knows what you meant.

ZANE

(To Zeke)

I gathered that captain obvious.

KARRY

You are a captain? What kingdom do you hail from?

ZANE

Sorry. Let’s back it up for a moment. Leirs? That was that huge black lion with red glowing eyes?

KARRY

We must flee before they gather. Leirs hunt in packs, but they are smart and they will call others to their aid.

Karry runs off into the forest.

ZEKE

I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore.

ZANE

I already… I know… Shut up. Zeke.

ZEKE

(Whispers)

You shut up.

ZANE

What?

ZEKE

Should we follow her?

ZANE

I don’t know. Maybe we should look around here for a way back home.

A Leir roars.

ZANE (CONT’D)

Or we follow Karry?

ZEKE

Yeah. Let’s do that.

14. EXT. MARKET PLACE AFTERNOON. 14.

A portal opens. Lilly and Moe roll out of it. The portal closes.

LILLY

Moe, are you okay?

MOE

Yes. Are you?

LILLY

Nothing serious. Where did we end up?

Crowds of people stared at them, then the area went back to the busy market before they arrived.

LILLY (CONT’D)

Odd. They don’t seem phased by our arrival.

MOE

Doctor, look!

LILLY

A blue mushroom with a faint yellow glow. Even visible in the day light. Interesting. Grab a sample Moe. We mustn’t waste the opportunity.

Moe picks the mushroom and puts it into her bag. Everyone in the market stopped. After a pause everyone entered their homes and closed their shops.

LILLY

Peculiar. Very Peculiar.

GUARD

You two, don’t move!

MOE

Doctor?

LILLY

Foreign world. Foreign laws.

MOE

Run doctor.

LILLY

I won’t leave you behind.

MOE

I’m sorry, but you must.

Moe throws her his bag. The guards circle him. Lilly runs down an alley.

LILLY

I’m sure we can handle this in a civilized manner.

A man dressed in crimson red armour with a large black L over his heart.

GUARD

Sargent Klaw. We have one citizen in custody, but the female got away.

KLAW

Take some of the soldiers. After her. As for this one. Bring him to the dungeon. I shall interrogate him myself.

15. EXT. DARK FOREST. AFTERNOON. 15.

Betty and Simon roll out of an orange portal.

SIMON

Where are we?

BETTY

If my calculations are correct, then we are in another dimension.

SIMON

What? That’s insane. This isn’t worth twenty bucks.

BETTY

How about I add a little more each time you do a good job. Like earning a gold star.

SIMON

I’m not a child.

BETTY

Then shut up and hand me the device in that box.

Simon opens the box.

SIMON

It’s empty.

BETTY

What!?

SIMON

(Loudly)

It is empty.

BETTY

I heard you, moron. You brought the wrong box. Damnit.

SIMON

What does that mean?

BETTY

It means we are screwed. So very very… very screwed.

SIMON

So how long do we have to stay here?

BETTY

(Whispers)

Oh my god…

SIMON

There is a path down here. Should we have a look?

BETTY

The others must be around here somewhere. Might as well look for them. I’d like to see how advanced the people are here.

SIMON

Well there is a path.

BETTY

Yeah I see the footprints too dumb dumb.

SIMON

(Mutters)

My name is Simon.

BETTY

It’s dumb dumb until you prove me wrong. Come along dumb dumb.

SIMON

(Sadly)

Yes Ma’am…

16. EXT. DARK FOREST. AFTERNOON. 16.

Zeke and Zane emerge from bushes. Karry Stands facing the sunrise, and a kingdom in the distance.

ZANE

Is that your home?

KARRY

The kingdom of Kansus, yes.

ZEKE

What were you doing all the way out here alone?

Short pause

KARRY

I was a prisoner. I escaped and I fled through the Leirs forest. It was risky, but there isn’t time.

ZANE

Time for what?

KARRY

The Sea of Doors have opened.

Karry leaps off the massive cliff into the fog below. Zeke Walks over and looks down.

ZANE

Should we follow her?

ZEKE

I wouldn’t recommend it.

17. EXT. MARKET PLACE. AFTERNOON. 17.

Lilly hides in an alley behind some crates.

GUARD COMMANDER

Do you see her?

GUARD

No sir.

GUARD COMMANDER

Keep looking. She couldn’t have gone far.

Lilly takes a sheet off a clothing line.

LILLY (V.O)

I suppose this will have to do. Now to cause a distraction.

Lilly takes small vials of various liquids. She mixes them and tosses them into the main street.

GUARD COMMANDER

What the hell way that?

GUARD

An explosion in the street. Are we under attack?

GUARD COMMANDER

This far into the city? Nonsense. Check it out.

The guard leaves. Moe notices Lilly in the alley looking at him.

MOE (V.O)

What is she doing? I told her to get out of here. All well.

Moe elbows the guard commander and gets away. Lilly and Moe run out of town.

MOE (CONT’D)

I can’t believe you came back for me.

LILLY

Of course.

Short Pause

LILLY (CONT’D)

What’s wrong?

MOE

There is a yellow stain on your sheet.

LILLY

(Disgusted)

Eww.

18. EXT. Hill top. AFTERNOON. 18.

Zeke and Zane stare off into the sunrise.

ZEKE

What do we do now?

ZANE

Lilly and Moe are here somewhere. We should find them.

LILLY

No need. We found you.

MOE

Hi!

ZANE

Oh! Hey guys. Are you alright?

LILLY

Yes. Just a few unfriendly encounters with the locals. They do not like when you touch their stuff. Not at all.

BETTY

(Shouts)

There you all are!

SIMON

You’re all in for it now!

BETTY

Quiet dumb dumb.

SIMON

Yes, ma’am.

ZANE

Who are you?

BETTY

You break into my lab and have the gems to ask who I am? Brave. Look, one off you have a bracelet I need it back. It was taken out of a crate from my lab.

Short Pause

ZEKE

Oh! Crap sorry, yeah I tried it on. Forgot to take it off.

Betty takes a deep breath.

LILLY

Curious little thing. What is it for?

BETTY

It is a prototype portal synchronizer.

LILLY

Of course. A means to return once you went through a portal in your lab. Brilliant.

Betty smiles and raises her arm into the air.

Long pause

ZEKE

Is it broken?

SIMON

If it is then you’re going to be my personal punching bag.

BETTY

Quiet dumb dumb.

SIMON

Yes ma’am.

ZANE

Your parents must be disappointed.

SIMON

What did you say?

ZANE

Well they named you Simon. Typically a name given by nerdy parents to nerdy children.

SIMON

I’m gonna smash you to bits!

BETTY

Quiet dumb dumb. The pretentious one is right. You’re parents are most likely disappointed.

ZEKE

Ha.

MOE

(Awkwardly)

We’re all going to die here…

LILLY

Is there a delay on the device?

BETTY

Yes. Give it a moment. Everyone shut up!

The bracelet begins to glow around Betty’s hand. Then a beam of light creates a portal in front of them.

BETTY

Everyone get in.

19. EXT. SEA OF DOORS. AFTERNOON. 19.

Betty walks through the portal last to find that everyone arrived an endless tunnel of identical portals.

LILLY

(Whispers to Zeke)

I heard you fart.

Zeke Sighs.

Fade out

20. EXT. SEA OF DOORS. AFTERNOON. 20.

A soldier in all black, and another with crimson red bow to a king.

KING MIGHTUS

The Sea of Doors have opened.

BLACK KNIGHT

Yes milord.

CRIMSON KNIGHT

Travelers have arrived. They were the ones that opened the gate way.

KING MIGHTUS

Destroy them. Destroy them all!

A woman walks into the throne room.

MISS MIGHTUS

Dear would you like a full pork feast, or would you rather the chicken?

KING MIGHTUS

Mom! I’m in the middle of super serious plotting!

MISS MIGHTUS

Okay, well wash your hands when you’re done you’re plotting.

King Mightus sighs.

KING MIGHTUS

Destroy them all!

Fade out.
