You just never know what will come. Be good to people.
You decide how it ends.

It was just like every other day. Same morning routine. Same 2 eggs, toast and a coffee on the way to work. Same light that takes exactly 3 minutes longer than every other light. Only this time. This time there is something out of place. The blinking amber lights off to the right should not be there. This is a dangerous stretch of road, and nobody can see around that next corner.
Getting to work twenty minutes late is not like you and they noticed…You dare not boast about your good deed because it was just the right thing to do. You dare not place blame on the motorist you assisted because it was not their fault that you stopped. You stand tall and take your reprimand with a sense of pride.
Two more lights and then home. For. The. Day! Still riding the high from the events from the morning. The smiles on the faces of the people in the car when you were getting ready to leave. The joy inside when you did not brag about what you had done, knowing you would never see them again, probably.
Last light is green what a surprise, as this usually turns red right before you can get to it. It has got to be a sign!
She was running down the sidewalk as fast as she could! Her mailbox company around the block called about the package that had just arrived. She had been waiting weeks! She lived close to the entrance of the neighborhood and chose the location specifically for the array of shipping and receiving options close by.
She had submitted the final draft of her first book to her publisher and was awaiting either a letter thanking her for her submission or a package containing her finished book. Clutching the package in her arms, her feet moving too fast for the loose, sandal type shoes she had on. She turned her foot mid stride trying to correct the shoe as she felt it come off her heel.
This light is going to turn green by the time I get there, he thought as his kid in the back seat was doing something totally social media worthy at them moment. He let off the gas to stop accelerating but did not start braking. There was plenty of distance between them and the light and there was nothing between them. I have got to get this on camera for mama. (video call) Hey baby, what is up? Check this out mama, let me point this phone around here and show you this kid of yours.
Her knee hit the grey concrete sidewalk with a sharpness like lightening through her leg. She could not help throwing her hands out and forward to stop herself from smacking her face into the sidewalk. She also had thrown her package into the street during her fall, which she quickly realized once she had settled. She did not even think to look if anything was coming. As she stood, eyes focused on her package two steps from the street, a sense of relief as her package is safe. One step from the street, she can hear the vehicle.
Suddenly aware of the woman standing way too close to the street, half turned in his seat, his breath froze in his lungs. Time stood still. He could feel the brake pedal pressed against the floor, while the weight of the vehicle shifted with the turn of the wheel.
Hey mom! I am home!
It is about time Honey!
I am sorry! I got hung up. Had a flat this morning on pretty sketchy road. This guy stopped to help us though and we got moving again in no time.
Well, that was nice of him. See! Chivalry is not dead and good guys do exist wink, wink.
Enough mom. You always go on about that good dead stuff and I just do not see how you can believe in that stuff.
Honey. When you have seen the things that can happen when you give the world love without asking for anything in return, you will understand. Your dad should be home any time now. He said he had an exciting day at work. Asked me to cook sirloin so it must be big!
Great! Hubby is on the way with baby and the rest of the food for tonight. I just finished a video call with them, he hung up real fast. Did dad give any hints?
No. But he was reading this submission for the past four or five weeks. I bet he read it three times. He just could not put it down. I bet they gave the selection the green light.
I am home! Hey Baby! Hey dad!
I have the greatest news! Do you remember the submission I was reading? Well, the first copy shipped to the author this morning and the rest are on their way to the shelves! I can not believe it! I knew they were looking for something good and it was a tight selection between these one and two others.
Congratulations!
It is an amazing read Baby; you would like it. It is called “Little Black Book.” It is a story about a guy who finds a little black book with $20,000 cash and a list of names. “Help the people on the list and more will come. Or take the money and live well friend.”
