You cannot Hide
The Shameful truth of the American Fabric
I sit here sadden to the news that I will have to attend a future meeting with something I prayed that could have stayed off the radar for as long as possible. For I knew her day would come and surface her ugly and shameful face within my close close quarters. Yeah, by all means I have face her in many versions and cannot remember the first time I had to deal with her directly, but I will forever remember the time my kids saw her ugly face for the first time.
As a parent, you cannot say that it will be alright. Things will get better, knowing that is not true because everywhere you turned in your life for as long as you can remember; there she was with her ugly face. People try to mask it and say that you are over exaggerating, focus on your money, move to a better neighborhood and go to a better school. Stop making a fuss over something that was part of the past.
However, there she is! Her ugly face and people are quick to say I cannot bare that ugly face, for I am a Judge, a doctor, a lawyer; I'm a professional. No, you are a ugly face that has been on the surface for far too long. Unfortunately, people have let you hide your ugly face within careers and banking systems and social status. Yet, look close enough, and your ugly face is still there. Slowly eating away at our children. Infectiously passing your behavior to the next person and the next.
So now I sit here, after years of struggle, blood, sweat and tears; I have to give a conversation with my innocent kids as to why your ugly face still harbor around the neighborhoods and societies today with no punishment, no incarceration and or penalty.
However, it is my duty to tell my kids about your ugly face, so that it is recognized at any given moment. No, I cannot retaliate with my fist. Even in today's age and time, I have to be careful of what I say and just use caution when it comes to dealing with your ugly face. Your ugly face is not going anywhere and I am here as well.
People say its a choice to speak about your ugly face. I say it is time to stand up to your ugly face. I'm not going to let your ugly face frown upon me as if I am constantly in the wrong. The ugly face may still be all so present in this day and time, but understand my reaction to your ugly face may not be the response of the 50s and 60s. My response may not be marching or giving a speech.
So the next time you decide to show your ugly face, just know and understand the resistance may be met with an equal of more powerful reaction that was initially displayed. Your face can no longer hide behind entitlement. Your face cannot stand in self-righteousness and not expect to receive backlash from the ignorance of your makeup. Throw rocks and hide your hands all you want. Sit there and smile, gaslight the situation all you want. Just understand that the smile on your ugly face will soon be a frown if you mess with mine.
You were doing fine until you came in my backyard and now I have to teach my kids how to move. Your face was so harmless minding your own business. Now I have to deal with your ugliness as you casted your ugly frown upon my children. Your face has to be dealt with accordingly.
