Why I See No Problem Wearing Female Clothes to be Funny - Zicsaloma

Zicsaloma responds to criticisms

By Jide OkonjoPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

Zicsaloma is one of the most famous and most recognizable internet skit makers and content creators today. His remixes of popular songs and his funny characters and mannerisms have set him apart and made him quite a fan favorite among many Nigerians. Some of Zicsaloma's most popular characters happen to be female characters including Sister Ekwi, Mama Amazing Grace, Mama Desperate, Angelica, and Bridget.

During a new interview with Wazobia Max, Zicsaloma was asked how he feels about some people's criticisms about what he does, saying that he needs women's clothes to be funny and would not be funny without it. Here's how Zicsaloma responded to the criticism.

Zicsaloma on Wazobia Max

During his interview with Wazobia, Zicsaloma was asked "So there was this time when controversy came out that why is it that most Nigerian skitmakers feel that it's to wear woman cloth that is funny? Did that affect you in any way?" Zicsaloma responded saying:

Na art. Some people go tell you say can't you be funny without wearing a female's clothes? Go ask some of the ones wey dey wear male cloth whether they'll be funny wearing female cloth. It's art. It's creativity. Anything that works for you, fine. I don't even know why it should be a problem because you see say this guy dey do am, people dey happy, people dey laugh, e dey give this guy money. So why should it be a problem? Do you understand? So me, normal thing be say, if I no dey okay with anything, I go just stay clear than to castigate the person. All na still creativity. If you think say e dey easy to wear female cloth, dey funny, go do am.

Then he was asked, "If there was no money in this thing you're doing, will you still do it?" to which he responded:

Yeah. I did this thing for more than three years without having shinshin. I just dey enjoy the thing. Because then, I know say I been dey work. For over 3 years, I dropped content at least three in a week. Yes. I no dey get shit, na me wey dey waste data. I was just enjoying myself. Because e come get the stage wey be say if I delay no drop, people go come dey message me. Say "why you never drop? Drop content na". I never popular that time oh. But I had little audience wey dey enjoy my content. For the fact say I dey drop content, them dey like am, they were happy, I was fulfilled. So I was seriously working and getting money, not from content creation. So when (the money) even came, I was like "ah ah, na so this thing even dey? na so people dey make money from this thing?"
