Why I Feel 'A Sunday Affair' Is My Best Role So Far - Dakore Akande

Ebonylife Studios is back with their latest offering in their partnership with international streaming giant, Netflix. Their latest production, A Sunday Affair, is a movie that has apparently been in the work for about 10 years now in Mo Abudu's mind. Finally, it is on our screens.

Speaking during the world premiere event of the movie, lead actor Oris Erhuero and lead actress Dakore Akande had a lot to say about the movie and how it was working on it. Here is what both actors had to say.

Oris Erhuero (as Sunday) and Dakore Akande (as Toyin) speak about 'A Sunday Affair'

First, speaking about the movie and his experience on the movie set, Oris Erhuero said:

ORIS ERHUERO: If you’ve listened to the song, Caught Up In The Rapture of Love, that’s what this is about. I played a role that nobody wants to talk about, especially people looking for love. Everybody wants a committed relationship, wants to be happy, but this is like a love triangle. I really feel sorry for people who are single. I am happy in my marriage so, I pray others will find such happiness. Finding love is not difficult, it’s about knowing yourself. We need to spend time with own self, praying and meditating, spend time looking deep within ourselves.

Working with two of the finest actresses (Dakore Egbuson-Akande and Nse Ikpe Etim) of our era is one of the interesting things about this movie. Working with Mo Abudu, Ebony Life and the people that are changing the narrative is exciting. Nollywood is on top of the world just like the Afrobeats.

Then, speaking about her own role in the movie and her experience on set, Dakore Egbuson-Akande said:

DAKORE EGBUSON-AKANDE: I love that this film is about love but not love in the Hollywood sense of love but in reality, a sense of love, how messy it can be and how sometimes it doesn’t work out the way we think it will. It is important that we show films like this to help us face solely expectations that are realistic. So I loved being able to play this character, also to showcase our beauty and complexity. [This character is nothing like my character in Fifty] cuz Tola was very flamboyant, she took up all the air, but Toyin is not like that, she’s quiet, and she’s in her head, but I know the similarity. The excellence comes from working on an EbonyLife production because the level is always high, we always work together, and I’m so honoured.

This is a movie to see every Valentine’s season; it’s for the grown and sexy, not teeny bumper stuff; this is complicated and mature. I think we’ve been starved for too long.

It is my best role so far. It’s my recent work and I want my work to always improve with every role. I’ve played many different roles over the years, so you always want to keep it fresh, so I act like it’s my first film, every film. It’s that push to make sure I’m doing something different
