Why I Don't Miss Marriage and Don't Want to Marry Boyfriend, Paulo - Iyabo Ojo

Iyabo opens up

By Jide OkonjoPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

When it comes to love and relationships, Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Iyabo Ojo has always marched to the beat of her own drum. Known for her charisma, work ethic, and outspokenness, the mother of two has never shied away from challenging societal norms — and her recent comments about marriage are no exception.

In a candid interview with the ladies of Your View, Iyabo Ojo shared her perspective on relationships, why she doesn’t miss marriage, and how her current partnership thrives without traditional expectations.

Speaking about it, Iyabo explained that while many may dream of walking down the aisle, that life just isn’t for her. Here's what she said.

INTERVIEWER: Do you miss marriage, and would you like to have that ring back on your finger?

IYABO OJO: I don't miss marriage, oh. I'm too independent — that's my problem. And God has just blessed me, for now, with a man who is also very independent. So, we just… like, we align.

For me, because of the way I work — I'm such a workaholic. And he's also a workaholic. That Igbo man, he likes to work! For me, there are times I just want to be alone. So if I want to be alone, I pack my bag:

“Babe, I dey go my house.”

“Okay baby, bye-bye.”

No quarrel. Because he knows, he understands. I can tell him, “I'll see you in 5 days,” and then maybe after 3 days, I can appear again. And sometimes, I’ll take my full 5 days — it depends on how busy I am — or even add two extra days.

But we never fight over that because he understands. Even though we might not be together in the same place, we communicate a lot.

And him too — he will pack his bag and say:

“Baby, like last year — baby, I no go dey around for like 7 or 8 months. I dey go work. You know say I get my container for this, I dey London, this…” because he has businesses in Dubai, London, and America.

And I’ll say, “Okay, bye-bye.”

But anytime, there's an open ticket for me. Yes — even his birthday, I was supposed to fly out, but I couldn't because of my movie promotion for Labake Olododo. There’s always an open ticket. Anytime, any day, I can fly down to go and see him. And if I don’t go, he understands that I’m busy.

INTERVIEWER: But if he proposes to you, will you marry him?

IYABO OJO: We don’t want marriage. We just don’t want marriage.
