Why Despite Taking More Breaks Than Any Other Actor, I’m Still on Top - Jim Iyke

"It's about the grey area..."

It is impossible to create a list of top Nollywood actors without including the name, Jim Iyke. Jim Iyke has been in the Nigerian movie industry for a very long time and has starred alongside some of the biggest and most popular actors in the industry. He has also been in some of the biggest Nollywood movies including One Dollar, Bad Comments, Merry Men, The Set Up, and more.

But as big as Jim Iyke is and as in demand as he is, he has also taken many breaks from the Nigerian movie industry. Jim Iyke is notorious for going many years without making anything and then returning with a banger. These days, he's more actively on the scene but there was a time in the early 2010s that he was very regularly missing in action.

In a new interview with Goldmyne, Jim Iyke revealed why even though he has taken so many breaks from the Nigerian movie industry, he is still always at the top. Here's what he said and why he believes it happens.

Speaking about why he is still on top despite taking more breaks than any other actor in the industry, Jim Iyke said:

I've seen people come and go from this industry for so many years, nothing moves me anymore. I'm not about a white horse space, I'm not about noise. As you know, I'm not very in the media space. I've taken hiatus more times than anybody, any living actor on this side of the divide. The one thing that has always worked for me is the grey area. I believe the grey area between being good and excellent is perfection. In order to strive and vie for perfection, you need to know how to manipulate that grey area and it's in the details. I've never found reason to surmount my details, to compromise my details. I will do whatever it takes to bring anything to come to life. The creative process I never undermine. What a lot of other people might be shy to commit to, I don't. The sacrifices I have to make. My crew, anybody that's ever worked with me or worked for me plainly understand that objectivity. That when I set my sight on achieving something, what it takes to achieve it: 6am wake up, late nights, lose sleep for few days, empty my bank account, forge alliances with even people I don't get along with socially, it doesn't matter. I cross every barrier, cross every creed, every boundaries to make things happen. It is that space that a lot of people are not willing to pave that I believe that when I get into that space, very few people, trust me, can best me.

Well, he is not wrong. It's not news that he poured his blood, sweat, tears, and finances into funding his latest Bad Comments movie as well as even planning a PR campaign with Uche Maduagwu to orchestrate a slap all to promote the movie. When Jim Iyke says there's nothing he won't do for the creative process, I think it's true from what we've seen of him.
