When I Finally Found My King

How I Met My Missing Piece

Here's the problem with love stories: they always have happy endings, and they make a lot of girls think their significant other is going to walk in with a white stallion, wearing a knight's armor. When I was young, I believed I was going to meet my knight in shining armor and he was going to love me and blah blah blah. Well, I met him, and we all know how knights are just actually not what they are cracked up to be. Let me tell you the story about how I finally got my fiancé.

First of all, This is honestly not as romantic as the Titanic or Romeo and Juliet or Beauty and the Beast, but love stories don't always start with a blushing girl and a heroic guy. This story starts with a queen (Me) looking for love on a dating app.

The "Knight in shining armor" bit was boring me and honestly pissing me off to no end. I was tired of meeting wolves in sheep's clothing and I despised my current ex. Let's call him Sir M.

So, Sir M and I dated on and off, and it was the final break-up after five months of not being together. Sir M was more of a court jester than a knight, seeing he loved to joke around with my heart too much.

That night, I was ready to move on. But how? I wasn't going to go clubbing, I was only 19. I didn't have a car to get anywhere, nor the money to waste to meet drunk people. Besides, I hated going outside.

I saw an add on Facebook for an app; let's call it "ballroom." I downloaded it and continued from there. Left and right, I started coming across many guys, many of which only wanted one-night stands and an easy chick. That wasn't me at all—whatso-freaking-ever. I was ready to give up. I didn't want notifications from horny strangers who wanted nudes. I put my phone down and got ready to sleep.

DING!

DING!

DING!

I tried ignoring my phone, but my curiosity got the better of me. I looked to see these notifications;

David hearted your picture!

David messaged you!

David favorited you!

Who's he? I thought to myself, and I opened the app again and snooped his profile. We were in the same state, he loved everything I loved; our taste in music, lifestyle, and hobbies were practically 100 percent the same. His eyes where a beautiful ice blue. He was a bit on the chubby side, but I was perfectly okay with that. It just meant, if he was a cuddle lover, I had more to snuggle up to.

My phone buzzed again. It was another message from him. I was afraid to open up to see what he wrote. What if he was just like the others, not wanting a relationship? I took a deep breath and opened up the messenger.

David: Hey, I just wanted to tell you that your eyes are gorgeous. They look like chocolate.

David: Are you there?

I was a bit taken off by what he said about my eyes. I saw Silence of the Lambs that night and the first stupid thought I had across my mind was that he was a cannibal.

Me: Yeah, I'm here. Sorry, was looking at your profile. Your eyes are gorgeous, too.

Me: Thank you for the compliment, too, sorry, I'm lost right now.

From there, our conversation led to talking on the phone all night, every night for about two to three months. It was like we knew each other for years.

Then the heartaching question was popped over text.

David: Hey, Mel, I was was wondering if you were doing anything July 21st?

Me: No, why?

David: Do you want to hang out, meet each other?

My stomach tied in knots. What if he wasn't who he said he was? What if it was a catfish and I am actually going to meet a 12-year-old? No, couldn't be. I already did my back ground check, I reminded myself.

Me: Sure, what time?

The day came and I was sick to my stomach. Where was he? What was he going to wear? How could I be stupid by inviting him to my home? What if he stalks me? I waited by the window as I saw a tall, thin, blond guy wearing all black, walk by. I'd never seen him in my neighborhood before. I squinted my eyes to get a more detailed view of him.

"Looking for something?" The guy looked back up at me and smiled. It was David. My heart beat faster than the flash and I hurried down the stairs to let him in. His eyes met mine as soon as I opened the door. It was as if our minds and hearts synced at once.

"I promised I was going to kiss you." He laughed and kissed my lips gently. Fireworks must have been bursting in my chest because I felt so heated up.

That day, I knew my heart belonged to him. We were curled up in bed watching a movie when he caressed my chin to look him in the eyes, and he said, in the gentlest voice, "You're mine. I love you."

I finally found my king; I found my missing piece.

One and a half years later, we are engaged and building our kingdom.

Yes, it sorta sounds like a happily ever after is going to come, but my story isn't over, and we go through problems every now and then. But at the end of the day, life is like chess; a king will always need his queen, and vice versa.

Moral of the story: you're going to find your significant other some day, if not today.
