All we need is love

Most would say that the word “love” is very much over used and frankly, I do not disagree with that statement. People constantly use this word for conversation or use it just to use it. It seems that the world has forgotten what the word truly stands for. Nowadays, people talk about how much love hurts and how it’s not worth it just because someone didn’t love them the way they should have. I understand that it is tough having a broken heart, but that shouldn’t cause one to turn on love or run away from it. The world is extremely chaotic right now. People are dying from so many things in today’s time and really, I think that it is due to the lack of love in the world.

Going into my first point, allow me to reveal something to you. You can look around and most times you see people dying from being murdered, committing suicide, overdosing, and ect. Even though there could be many causes for those incidents, the one thing they all have in common is the lack of love. The act of murdering someone can be an act of anger and/or revenge, but it is never an act of love. Most people that have thought of suicide or have actually taken their, have dealt with the feeling of being alone or feeling unloved. They feel as if there is no one to go to for their problems and they want to find a way to escape from the pain. As a result, they come to the conclusion that they are unwanted or unneeded in this world. Imagine how many lives could have been saved if one or two people went to that person and told them that they love and care for them and that their life is very valuable. I believe that a simple act of love, such as that, could change or save lives and frankly, we do not have enough of that in the world sadly.

Moving on to my final point, many kids have to endure different types of bullying and abuse whether it’s verbal, physical, or mental. These too are also some causes leading to murder or suicide. Most times when a person chooses to bully or abuse another person, it can be because of their past, hard family life, a sense of having dominance over someone, or simply just wanting to degrade someone else to make themselves feel better. No one bullies or abuses out of love. Even the person that’s doing the bullying or abusing, is in the wrong, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have a story behind it. Now don’t get me wrong, people that bully or hurt others should be disciplined, but have you ever thought why a person might bully someone else? Have you ever thought that maybe that person wants love and affection too but they can not get it? I know. It is something very hard to consider but sometimes we should sit back and think about that some times.

I could write all day long about the lack of love in the world and the results from it. I could go way back in history to slavery, but it is very obvious, that the world really should have a change of heart and instead of hating and hurting one another, we need to love more, and perhaps, the world may be a better place. I’ve dealt with the feeling of loneliness many times and all I ever wanted was someone to show me that I mattered and that I am loved and so my family and friends did. So I want to pass this gift to others who need it more than I do.. So I challenge you and myself to show an act of love everyday. It can be as simple as letting someone know that you care about them. You have no idea how that could change a person’s mindset and make their day. If the world lacks love and you want to change it, then let the change start with you.
