Traces of Love

Iridescence

By Blaire KovachPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Have you ever wondered what love truly is?

Excitement, butterflies in the stomach, daydreaming, everything seems so colorful at the moment. You start feeling there is nothing more beautiful than having someone that supports you when you are down, or when something amazing happened to you.

The fact is that not all love is related to a significant other. There are multiple kinds of love, in fact we receive more love than we think from different sources, the only problem is that we don't always realize someone is loving us as it is not the way we expect.

Over the years I have learned what are the traces of love that people around me left behind.

Each act of selfless kindness. My mom would give away her dinner to me and my siblings when there wasn't enough food for everyone. kids are the priority to a mother, but as kids we think it its a mother's duty to provide. How wrong I was, I never saw my mother tears when she was sad or hungry.

There is another kind of love which very few people can accomplish, loving someone that is not from your family. Loving someone as your equal and being able to maintain a relationship. A friend came inadvertently, shared happiness and sadness and then went on his way without a word of goodbye.

Then it came another love to my life, it was born with the light of my niece playful, sharing, hanging along, and learning again with her, it was like having a daughter just with more fun and less reprimands.

Suddenly I realize there was also love inside me, I had been neglecting myself, never worried about what I was wearing or how sloppy my hair was, I never knew that doing what I like, was also a way of being kind to myself. Be generous to yourselves that is the way to share all the beauty that you have within you.

Finally there is one kind of love that I been hoping to see, some might say it isn't real as they have lost their faith. Love can start with a mischievous glance, kind words, selfless acts, but without compromise endless love is something almost mythical. It is so rare to see an old couple hanging hands and having a nice walk through the park or having a pleasant conversation.

The only thing that's left to say is that love comes in different colors and shapes. If we overlook what is surrounding us we might never know how much we are cared for.

So, can you tell what kind of love you have been given?
