The Windy Proposal
From online dating to date night

Around me was the buzzing sound of people talking and loud music. I could feel my hands clamming up and my cheeks flushing red. My body temperature was rising despite the cool breeze. I wiped away the sweat from my forehead and took a deep breath. This was it. I thought. The day I had been awaiting yet dreading ever since I found the picture that got my attention online. After such a long time I had found comfort in the distance, but at the same time suspicion if it was even real or if it was a lie. Going with my gut instinct I had finally decided to take it further even though I didn't feel ready. It had been three years, and that was more than long enough for me.
She was beautiful but could she be fully trusted? That was the question that replayed in my mind from time to time, and I never answered it. I was so busy juggling my work schedule and my family life to give it too much thought. She was my escape and I didn't want to ruin it by overthinking because what good would that ever do me? Over the past few years of skype dates, late night phone calls, and seductive selfies I was as ready as I was ever going to be. This was the night and I was going to make the most of it. Looking down at my phone screen something in me was awaiting a text message notification or a phone call from her saying that she couldn't make it.
Looking up I saw her walking towards me looking right past me. I adjusted my collar and waved my hand smiling nervously. She saw me and waved smiling back. Flaunting her curvy figure in a beautiful red dress with her hair curly and red lipstick she looked almost decadent. Feeling a million different emotions rush over me I cleared my throat as I walked up to her. I gave her the long anticipated and well planned hug and a kiss as naturally as I could. Don't give yourself away. Stepping back I let her go. Walking to our table I had made reservations for I held her hand before pulling out her chair for her to sit down.
Her energy was like a breath of fresh air after being in a stuffy muggy greenhouse even more so in person that online. Feeling my pocket as I sat down I waved for the waiter to come so I could request her favorite drink. It was a small dent in my wallet that I was ready to make every single time I'd take her out. She raised her eyebrows excitedly and winked at me giggling. Feeling the butterflies in my stomach I gazed into her stare. She had striking blue eyes and rosy pink cheeks. Her complexion was on the lighter side glowing in the dimly lit restaurant. Her bangs slightly fluttering from the ocean wind. There was a sparkle in her eyes from the lights around us that I couldn't take my eyes off of. Diamonds. It was written all over her face that I could trust her.
I wanted to take her all around the world with me. To Cabo, Italy, Greece and France just to name a few. There was nothing I wouldn't do for her and the confidence in me said she felt the same, but did she? It wouldn't be hard for her to be taking advantage of me. Maybe she had a boyfriend back home and they were both plotting against me. She could just as easily be using her beauty and personality to get me to marry her so she could rob me of my empire. Honestly the more I thought about it the less I cared as I stared into her eyes asking about her flight and telling her about mine. The emotional baggage from my last relationship was haunting me at the wrong time.
We both took the biggest leap of faith yet and flew from our homes to meet half way being it that we both lived so far away from each other. I being a retiring Anesthesiologist in Seattle Washington and her being a Zoologist in India. The story is I found her profile on my friends social media and a week later she added me unexpectedly five years ago. Two years later we started dating and have been getting serious ever since. It took a long time for us to finally meet because I was always busy with work getting ready for my resignation for my retirement. My letter was sent in last week and I took a weeks vacation before my last year. It was already the middle of the year and I was getting restless to finish up my stressful job. My online business finally took of in the last couple of weeks and everything was coming into play.
The waiter came back and poured us both a glass of Petrus, Pomerol. I watched as she took a small sip and gazed back at me. Her eyes glued to mine and mine glued to hers. There was a softness about her mysterious glow I never saw like this before. I loved it all the more so and badly desired to ask her before the date was over, but I promised myself I would wait. Looking at me playfully she took another sip before retreating to take a glance at her menu. Doing the same as I completely relaxed. After deciding what I wanted I looked down at my watch and checked the time. What felt like forever had only been five minutes.
There was a quietness and a stillness as we both looked up from our menus and gazed at the ocean beyond the gulf course. Her hair was blowing slightly in her face delicately. Breathing in I could smell a floral fragrance mixed with spices. Reaching over the table I gently pushed her hair behind her ears and brushed her cheek. It was perfect and soft. She turned towards me smiling and giggling as I took my hand away. I couldn't help but ask myself, should I pop the question right now?
