There was a woman who had a hard life. She had been through so much in only a short life she lived thus far. She had horrible parents and her first husband was a nightmare. She had to work very hard to get to where she was in life. Which honestly was nowhere. She had a dead-end job and bills piling up and no social life. She worked to pay a debt that seemed like would never be resolved. One day she met a man who was charming and kind. They went on a date and she thought they hit it off. They laughed, drank, ate, told each other their life stories, and really got along. Then there was a sinking thought that maybe this was too good to be true. She started to go over their date in her head and twisted the night so bad in her mind she started to doubt any of the great things even happened. She started to cry realizing she had failed at yet another thing in her life.
There was a knock at the door. The man she had went out with was standing outside her door. She didn't know what to think. Was he there for her or was there something wrong? He told her he had the best night of his life and would love to see her again. She was in so much shock she could not comprehend what was going on. Was this man actually into me? She politely said she felt the same way and he asked her to dinner. She accepted. This time she wore a nice dress and heels. She put on her special pearls and made sure her hair was just right. She sprayed on a pleasant smelling perfume and was all ready to go.
There was a knock at the door. She hurried and grabbed her shawl out of the closet and turned off her lights leaving the front porch light on. When she opened the door her heart sank, it was the police. Her ex-husband was at the hospital in critical condition. She was listed as his emergency contact if anything should happen. She thanked the officers and called the man she was going to meet to tell him she could not make it only he did not answer. She left him a voicemail: "Hi I am sorry to do this I have an emergency that I have to take care of. I will call you later. If you get this let me know when would be a good time." She left her house and quickly got to the hospital. When she arrived her he was hooked up to monitors and had a machine breathing for him. She could not believe the sight. His current mate was there in tears in disbelief of what was happening. She sobbed and cried out for him.
The next day he woke up and when he was content she went home. She realized the man she was supposed to meet never got back to her. She checked her phone and no messages had been left. She took a shower and went out to check the mail. She picked up the newspaper on the front step and saw the headlines "Fatal Crash on Highway 5". She took it in to see who it was about since her ex-husband was just in an accident. She read that he was headed east on highway 5 and as he was crossing he was T-Boned by another driver. He was trying to make a yellow light and didn't make it in time, but kept going. The other driver died instantly and her ex-husband transported to the nearest hospital in critical condition.
She started sobbing and couldn't catch her breath. How could this be? You see her ex-husband was in an accident yes, but that was not the reason she was crying. She was sobbing because the driver who died was the man she was going to meet with again. The man she doubted was true and she would never know if she was wrong or right.
