The Human Body and Soul
“Where the Body Lives and the Soul Shines”

Human beings are the most beautiful, complete, and intelligent creation in this universe. Among all creatures, humans hold a special place because they possess two aspects — one physical, called the body, and the other spiritual, called the soul (rooh). These two elements together make a human a complete being. The body is what we can see with our eyes, while the soul gives us life, awareness, and feeling. Without the soul, the body is just clay — lifeless and meaningless.
The human body was created from the earth, which is why all its needs are fulfilled from the earth. Whatever a person eats, drinks, wears, or uses — it all comes from the ground. To keep the body healthy, it needs food, rest, cleanliness, and sleep. If a person neglects these things, the body becomes weak or sick. Inside this body, the heart, brain, eyes, ears, and other organs together form an amazing system. The brain is the center of thought and understanding, the heart pumps blood throughout the body, the lungs help in breathing, and the eyes allow us to see the colors of the world. All these organs work in a perfect order and balance. If even one of them stops working properly, the entire system is affected.
But human beings are not only bodies. Without the soul, this body is dead. The soul is a subtle, invisible, and radiant truth that gives life to the body. When it enters the body, a person walks, speaks, and thinks; and when it leaves, the body returns to dust. The soul is the true essence of a person. We can see our body in a mirror, but we cannot see the soul. However, we can feel it — through our emotions, intentions, and thoughts.
The soul is the center of our morals, faith, and conscience. It teaches us the difference between good and evil. When the soul is pure and strong, a person naturally turns toward goodness — feeling compassion for others, being fair and just, and avoiding evil. But when the soul becomes weak, the conscience sleeps, and the person gets lost in worldly desires. To strengthen the soul, one must engage in worship, prayer, patience, truthfulness, love, and service to others. These are nourishment for the soul just as food is nourishment for the body. If the body is deprived of food, it weakens; and if the soul is deprived of faith and goodness, it becomes dark and lifeless.
True success for a human lies in maintaining balance between body and soul. If one focuses only on bodily pleasures — food, clothing, wealth, and comfort — one might appear happy but remains empty and restless inside. On the other hand, if one focuses only on the spiritual side and neglects physical health, one also becomes weak. The truly successful person is one who keeps the body healthy and the soul pure. The body needs nourishment and rest, while the soul needs remembrance of God, gratitude, and patience.
The relationship between the body and the soul is very deep. The soul moves the body, but it is through the body that the soul expresses itself. For example, when a person feels love, it shows through their face, words, and actions. Similarly, hatred or anger also appear on the face and behavior. Thus, body and soul are closely connected. The emotions of the soul are reflected through the body, and the actions of the body affect the soul. When a person does wrong, the soul feels heavy and burdened; but when they do good deeds, the soul feels light, bright, and peaceful.
Life itself is the beautiful harmony of body and soul. When both work in balance, true peace arises within. Such a person is not only content themselves but also becomes a source of comfort and goodness for others. But when one exceeds the limits of physical desires, the light of the soul fades, leading to greed, fear, and restlessness.
To attain spiritual peace, one must look within — to examine the heart and see whether it is clean or filled with jealousy, greed, or hatred. When a person purifies their inner self, the soul becomes happy. A person with a pure soul remains calm and satisfied even in difficult times.
Eventually, the body perishes. With time, it returns to dust, but the soul continues its journey. The soul is eternal — it is the real essence of human existence. The body belongs to this world, but the soul belongs to eternity. Therefore, the true value of a human lies not in physical beauty but in the purity of the soul. A person with a beautiful soul lives on in people’s hearts, even after their body is gone.
Thus, it is essential to care for both — the health of the body and the purity of the soul. True peace, true happiness, and true humanity can only be achieved when the body and the soul are in perfect harmony.
