The day started with an abrupt email, I have spent the weekend with him. Only to find out the day that I was expected to leave, my flight had been changed. We were two hours away from the airport and my flight is expected to leave in the next 20 minutes from the email that I received. I was in hysterics, realizing I needed to get home & that meant re-booking the entire ticket.
He sees me in distress and talks me into leaving the next day. I calmed down and found a flight for the next day, it was also a little bit cheaper to go home the next day anyways. He proceeded to leave me for a few minutes and came back. He asked me to get ready and had a bit of a surprise for me. I smiled and everything that just happened seem to just disappear.
As we get ready, he smiles at me and says I wanted to surprise you but I just want to tell you. We are going to the winery and it’s a tour as well as winetasting. I smiled with glee, and knowing that he wanted to surprise me is such a nice feeling to have. We go driving to the winery, it was our first wine tour for each of us.
We get to the winery, check-in and about 15 minutes and we are greeted with our tour guide. He goes to tell us that we are the first ones here, for the tour and will be the only ones. Just because, since Covid, they haven’t had winetasting in a few months. So we were delighted to hear that we were the first and only ones of the season for the wine tasting tour.
We begin our tour at a grand piano, our tour guy proceeded to pour champagne wine for us. Tells us of the winery in the history and how to enjoy the wine. I took the bubbly sip and savour every taste. It was almost refreshing but yet such a beautiful taste. Refinish there and proceeded to walk outside of the winery, the tour guide took us too the field, where all the grapes are grown, and proceeded to tell us about how a specific year was the best year for the grapes. Such fine history for such a fine wine. He proceeded to pour a bottle of Merlot into two wine glasses for us to try. From the moment the wind touch my lips to my tongue to the sides of my mouth, every sip was none like no other. I listen to our tour guide intently, but then I looked over to my friend, and couldn’t help but to be mesmerized by him. The distinct look that he has on his face, I am mesmerized by him. I didn’t think he knew that. As I stood there in the field with them, I can’t help but feel this overwhelming satisfaction, being by him. Drinking one of the finest wines there is.
We then continued our tour to the basement of the winery, where they held many wines, The tour guide proceeded to pour us another bottle of wine. Beautiful red wine, was a little more distinct than the last. I can’t help but to feel even more overwhelmed by the taste. This time we are smiling at each other as we drink the wine. As we listen to the tour guide, telling us about the barrels of wine surrounding us and what each one meant and how much work they would put into getting the wine into these barrels. I can’t help it, but every moment by him, I don’t it too end. Knowing very well my flight leaves tomorrow.
We finished our third glass and go to our final destination, which was in a freezer that was 10 below, and the entire room was made of ice, from the wall to the chairs, to the frozen bar made of ice. We are completely mesmerized and in all of the entire room. Then our tour guide proceeded to pour a fourth glass of wine, this time it is called Iced wine. This wine was special, very special. He made sure that we took much care into drinking this wine. To take it in and taste every note. Not only was I taken away by how amazing this wind was. I look over at my friend and just smile. He says to me you look very happy right now. I can’t help but to just smile and just say thank you. For being amazing, and just being here with me. Our tour guide proceeded to take our picture on the ice chair. We smile the biggest smile and laugh. He puts his arm around my waist and pulls me closer for the photo. At that moment, all the butterflies in my stomach are going crazy. I wish I can keep him. I wish he would want to keep me. I spent the weekend with him only to let them go. Sharing the finest glasses of wine, and the finest moments I can never forget. He stole my heart over wine for a day.
