The late Bill Russell, legendary NBA player/coach, once said,

“That being an athlete is like being a pretty girl. Nobody cares what you have to say; They only want you to sit there and look pretty.”

Now I’m paraphrasing a little bit but that was the gest of what he said during an interview he did decades ago and you know something?

Big Bill Russell was right!

Athletes and models/beautiful women have so much in common which is why they end up hooking up with each other. They share more then a few of the same plights.

Athletes and models have long been coddled by adults ever since they first learned that Mike could throw a Wilson football 50 yards and when Michelle hit her growth spurt and now stands 5 feet 11 inches tall.

They knew right then and there that they had a child prodigy on their hands. These so-called adults saw dollar signs in their eyes and heard the ching, ching sound of a cash register instantly.

Another thing that athletes and models/beautiful women have in common is that they both have hit what I like to call “the genetic lottery.”

That pretty much means that they will be able to make a lot of money off of their God given abilities and genetic accomplishmens for the rest of their lives just as long as they don’t go running through all that money or snorting it up their noses.

Several weeks ago, I was on the Yahoo main page getting ready to check my email when I saw an article on Lisa Guerrero.

For those of you who don’t know of Ms. Guerrero, I’ll give you a brief synopsis of who she is.

Lisa Guerrero has worn many hats in her entertainment career. She used to be a sideline reporter for the NFL.

She had a gig on FOX Sports Net as a sports analyst for The Best Damn Sports Show Period once upon a time.

She’s been working on the show Inside Edition as an investigative journalist for the past 14 years and better.

She has also done some acting and modeling in her career as well so this woman has literally seen and done it all with a very highly, impressive resume.

In this yahoo article, she talks about her memoir and about the triumphs and challenges not only in her career but life as well.

In the article, the subject of slut shaming was brought up about how it was a normal part of her career during the 1990’s and 2000’s.

The article says,

She was “openly humiliated” for the size of her chest, the length of her hair and her former employment as a bikini model. “They used to call me a channel stopper,” she says, “meaning people would be clicking through channels and they would see me and stop.”

Lets check out the phrase “slut shaming.” I’m going to do an etymology break down on each word individually.

Shame is someone who is embarrassed about doing something against their own moral code.

So if someone is trying to bring shame on you, they are trying to make you feel embarrassed about something.

The word slut is a slang for a prostitute. A slut is someone who uses sex as a way to get paid.

So when you put both those words together, slut shaming is someone that’s trying to make a person feel embarrassed about being a slut.

That’s poor word phrasing on either Guerrero’s part or the person who wrote in the article because Guerrero’s behavior doesn’t warrant that phrase at all.

According to the article, "she was (allegedly) removed from primetime coverage of the Super Bowl because she wouldn’t sleep with an executive."

To be honest, looking at quotes from the beginning of the article sounds more like she was sexually harrassed and discriminated against just for being a beautiful woman who wouldn’t “play the game.”

Now, let me just say that I don’t condone any of that behavior whatsoever and I’m widely aware of the shady practices of these perverted tv execs but I want to dive into the topic of slut shaming for a few.

Is that really a bad thing to be embarrassed about though?!

I mean, who grows up wanting to be notches under other people’s belts once they become older.

I’ve heard tales of kids wanting to grow up to be firemen, policemen but I’ve never heard tale of them wanting to grow up to be the biggest skank in Wyoming.

Now I have a question involving slut shaming as the definition I gave it a a little earlier regarding it being a way that someone uses sex to make money.

So Are Playboy Playmates sluts?

What about FHM models or swimsuit models? They are also using the imagery of sex to make beacoup dollars too.

We know good and well that people are not reading Playboy for the articles. I guarantee that they could give two shits about that article on quadrophonic stereos.

No! Those folks are paying attention to a different set of knobs and they’re not located on a Pioneer receiver.

I just remembered that Lisa Guerrero did Playboy so I went hunting for pics, strictly for research purposes of course, when I came….

Oops! I mean when I arrived upon some.

It’s getting a little tougher doing research since everything’s under a pay wall these days. Either that or I’m just too lazy to turn off my many ad-blockers.

I finally found the pictures that I was looking for and I have to reiterate that the only reason why I’m looking for these pictures is strictly for research purposes. I must say that she he looked pretty, damn good.

I believe the issue was dated January 2006 so she was in her late 30’s at the time which you can certainly tell when you look around her eyes. They were a little baggy which you could still see even with all her makeup on.

Again, taking nothing away from her but you can tell that these pictures were touched up to a certain degree but she’s still a fine lady.

This was back when she was on The Best Damn Sports Show Period which means she was working for FOX Network at the time so I don’t feel like she was hurting for money.

My question for her would be why would you do Playboy at that time of your career.

I’d be very curious to know what her answer would be.

She might say it was because they offered her a boat load of money. She might say that she did it for the art or whatever but we also know that somebody like her wants to be taken seriously at her job.

So the question, again, is why would she do something like that in the first place?!

Usually for women who went this route, they would only do something like this at the start of the careers or when they were down on their luck and didn’t possess any other skill.

Also, a lot of these women who took racy pictures, or became strippers did so because they needed the money.

Maybe if some of the ladies were lucky and connected, they could parlay that into a career in tv or films.

Lisa Guerrero was already doing very well so she did all this stuff in reverse which is rather on the weird side if you ask me.

She has to know that folks are not going to look at her the same. Plus, when they do look at her, they’re going to have those very tasteful pictures of her embedded into their minds.

I think what’s starting to happen is that some of these women that chose to go down a certain road, to play a certain game are starting to get aged out of the game.

It’s just like athletes. When they can no longer run as fast, jump as high or recover like they used to, they’re pretty much taken out back and put out to pasture, figuratively speaking.

They don’t really put you out to graze; Teams just stop calling and that’s exactly what happens to the so-called beautiful people on the women side as well.

Your phone just simply stops ringing.

Also, for the ladies, the quality of suiters declines significantly.

That means that a woman will go from rolling in a Ferrari with Don Johnson in her heyday to rolling in a Caddy with Don Rickles in the twilight of her career.

Time really does fly by when you’re young and having fun.

I think a lot of this is about older women having a place in the game of beauty long even though“the powers that be” have moved on to the latest and greatest hot, young thang who’s 21 or over.

You have to differentiate when it comes to age because people can take things the wrong way and cause context to get lost.

One thing about Playboy is that they always do their very best to make it look tasteful but let’s be real.

We all know what these gentlemen (and I use that term very loosely) want to see and it’s not tastes but another word that begins with the letter t and ends with the letter s just the same.

It’s all about TNA and I’m not talking that wrasslin’ company either.

See, she still wants to play the game even though the imagemakers are telling her that she’s too old.

On the male side, it’s the equivalent of Michael Jordan coming out of retirement to play with the Wizards in the early 2000's.

Sure, Jordan had moments where he looked like an all-time great as well as one of the top players in the league.

The only thing was that at age 39–40, he couldn’t sustain it.

Obviously, Mike Jordan can still beat the average man at basketball by a million points but he can’t beat somebody that’s at the top of his own field in that same manner.

For example, he couldn’t compete with LA Lakers great, Kobe Bryant, one on one on a consistent basis.

Neither could Jordan sustain with the rest of the younger superstars of that time period day in and day out like a Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan or a Kevin Garnett just to name a few.

One thing we also have to question is what’s the motive of the person writing that article.

Sure, some of these writers might claim “girl power” but it’s not really about that. It’s about manipulating people into whatever they want them to be.

Now I don’t mind if some of these ladies CHOOSE to be freaky because it’s all about free will.

However, I do mind if you have folks out there trying to CHANGE people into something that they’re not to their own detriment!

And they’re only doing this because somebody’s paying them top dollar to steer a generation of lost young, women down a very dark and lonely path.

I said earlier that some of these young women want to parlay that sexual side of their careers into tv and films but in actual reality, very few of them ever really get to that point.

For every Pamela Anderson, there’s about 30 ladies that fell to the wayside.

You would rather be Ms Lisa Guerrero in this situation because even if the beauty starts to fade, she’s still got a shit ton of skill sets to always fall back on.

And by the way, I think Ms. Guerrero is absolutely, breathtaking. So please don’t sue me. :D
