Every evening that week I was researching the Aramaic alphabet. Between Robert’s compilation and the internet, I was consumed. Somehow convinced that something out of this realm was trying to make contact. What was the message here? What direction was I supposed to follow? I began to note everything in my journal; things I witnessed which seemed out of place or unusual. My senses were on hyperdrive and I felt super “aware.” Gage was also intrigued with my new hobbies, and agreed when things seemed out of place and noteworthy. Together we had started watching documentaries about this and that, from exposing ourselves to hz frequencies for healing to government conspiracies. We were climbing out from under a rock and the world around us had changed.
“Wanna go to the lake?” Gage asked one beautiful Sunday afternoon. We had just gotten back from our supply run and we were all itching to be outside. “Yes definitely! Let’s bring our poles too.” Rae ran up the stairs to put on her most capable looking “beach look” with all her accessories. Noah their oldest son was playing a video game and yelled down “give me five minutes!”
With the windows rolled down and music up, I couldn’t help but sigh and smile. Interlacing my fingers in Gage’s as he drove, I glanced into the review mirror at the beautiful life we were creating. Both kids happily looking outward with sunglasses on and myself enjoying the breeze playing with the hair twirling around my face. Life was good, and as I looked up a definite “Hi” written in the sky by the clouds was visible. As I sat with my pole in the water I reached to open the big bag of beef jerky. This immediately caused both kids to come running “can we have some ma?” I found both Gage and I laughing at them struggling to now eat their jerky and hold onto the poles. They were content even if the only fish that ended up on their line was the minnows we put on. After a bit I noticed a cove covered in rocks. It was just a short distance off from where we were and I was getting restless. “Wanna go look around with me, you guys about done?” Everyone agreed they had their fill and wanted to explore. We packed up the car and started walking along the shore line. It was covered by trees with low hanging branches. The bushes between us and the water gave me a little reassurance that Rae was going to be safe not knowing how to swim yet. A little path like this led the whole way to an opening at the waters edge. The terrain was rocky and the sun was shining brightly into our eyes since it was just setting off in the west. Looking out we could see some small boats anchored in the distance and cars driving over the bridge. As I looked down into the shallow waters, I could make out three small fish. “Babe, I whispered look!” The kids started wading into the cool waters very slowly just to get closer. The middle one almost looked like he was smiling, doing circles and flips like our old chihuahua Jordan would do. The fish didn’t move nor retreate at our presence, even with the kids making headway. We’re they even real? I bent down poking my finger into the water. Not feeling anything yet not seeing the fish move, I stood back up in awe at this experience we were having together.
That Monday morning while at the cafe a lot of police cars came flying by with sirens and lights blaring. We noticed them a lot being by the sheriffs department and courthouse, but then the fire truck and ambulance sped by as well. “I wonder what all the fuss is about?” one of the men from the retired group we loving named “old settlers” said. It was about an hour later when our attorney neighbor came in with a newspaper in one hand, loosening his tie with the other. “Good morning Bob, how goes it?” He walked over and put both hands down on our counter. “Victoria, did you see all those police cars and ambulance a bit ago?” Knowing exacting what he was referencing I shook my head yes. “Well, downtown is about to get interesting. That Guru next door was just found hanging inside the temple.” “Victoria he is dead.”
