Life changing event

After having the worst week of my life and feeling the lowest I have ever felt, I decided to take a long way home. As I walked down the street just thinking to myself, can this day get any worse? A man runs past me in a hurry and without even looking he knocks me to the ground, of course, he tumbles down with me. He yells at me to watch where I am going as he hurries up. He gives me the meanest look ever. I said well okay have a nice day sir. He turned around and cursed at me, words I could not repeat; I say oh well guess he is having a bad day as well. I step on a little black book, I picked up and it is only filled with numbers. Not phone numbers just numbers in a series of six, and some of five. I hurry over to where I have seen the man walk towards and to see if I see him. AS I yell hey you dropped something he gives me the finger and tells me to go to hell. He continues to hurry up just then he is hit by an oncoming Van. I run over to help him and he is choking. I hurry to get my phone out and call 911. I take my jacket off and put it over him and tell him to hold on help was coming. As I waited with him on the dark street the Van driver had kept going and no one else was stopping. He gives me his cell phone and asks that if he should not make it, I need to call the phone number with the name Cindy and let her know what happened. As we waited it seemed like forever for them to get there, he was just going in and out. I kept on telling him please hold on, don’t die. I was scared out of my mind just then EMS came. They asked how I know him I told them I didn’t’ he had just run past me and I heard the accident. I told them what I could remember about the van and asked if I could ride with him. I felt really bad if he didn’t make it. This poor man dies on the way to the hospital. I just went home feeling more depressed than ever.

When I woke up the next day, I called my job and told them that I wasn’t feeling well and was going to take a personal day. I laid in bed until about noon, when I woke up I went to do some laundry and went in the pants pocket that I had on the night before.

When I pulled out the black book with the numbers. I remember what the man asked me and check my bag I had his cell phone. I called the number under Cindy and explained who I was and how I knew the man whose names turned out to ralph. She asked if he had anything else on him I told her no, but that he was at the general hospital waiting for someone to claim him. She said thank you and hung up the phone. I never really got to find out if this book was his. A month since passed, I was in the local store getting milk, and as I waited because the line was so long. I took a lottery card and counted the number needed to play. I never played these games but it was one dollar. I needed five numbers and I could not think of any so I went in my pocketbook and seen the black book. I remember that it had a series of number in it, I flipped the first page and took the first five number I saw. I went home as I sat in front of the TV eating, the number is coming out on the TV. I did pretty well that night I got four out of the five numbers and won 500 dollars, I was excited. I started to think and said to myself that I would use the numbers on the pages as the number to keep playing. I did spend $100 that day; I continue on to work. Let just say that day changed my life. I walked into my office and my boss was having a moment I was fired. I went home sat in from of the TV as they read the number I hurried up and wrote them down. I went to sleep, the next morning I could hear on the raid that someone in NYC had won the jackpot. I took out a pencil and started to circle the number on my tickets. I could not believe it was me.

As I sit in my office in my nonprofit origination. We help women start their own journey, among other things we do. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I looked and looked for the black book, it turns out I lost it that day as well. I looked into ralph family and gave them money because if it wasn’t for me meeting him that day I would have not found that black book. I went back to look for the book the day I lost it but was told by the store owner that it was thrown away with the garbage. I look at it like that day my life changed and I should help as much as I can others to do the same.
