Have you ever asked you friend that silly comment: “If you and him was the last people on earth” …?

It’s a funny notion being the last two being on earth also a bit of a stretch but when you truly think about it when you are in love you are the only two in the world.

It was a dark night on the island, but we made do with a roaring fire and the emergency pack that drifted on the that sand earlier that afternoon. Carlos held me close I could feel the heat of his breath on my face, I wasn’t scared anymore I knew we would be saved.

Sleep was hard to come but with him holding me; sleep finally came. I could feel him fighting to stay wake but without a doubt he too would be drifting to sleep. Despite being stranding in the middle on the ocean I’ve have never felt safer and at peace then I did back at home.

Morning shown right in my eyes, blinking my eyes open I could feel myself tightly wrapped in Carlos’s arms. I know I should have many emotions but all I could feel was freedom. I should be missing my life and anticipating my rescue. I felt him awaken pulling away from me in shame. Bitterly I asked; “what is the problem.” He turned annoyed to reply; “Nothing at all princesses.” Hurt by his tone I lashed back with “fine.”

He walks off to the edge of the water examining piece of the boat mumbling to himself. I look to see the fire has burn to ash and beyond the ash, The island, Its tremendous. I’ve never seen such beauty. A paradise waiting to be explored. We needed firewood and timber to make a fire big enough to be seen, if we were going to make it back home.

I started into the brush with a sharp rock I had found in the sand. lots of the smaller tree would work. I begin to beat away at the first small tree. I keep hitting and beat this small tree putting a lot of energy in to breaking it down. I hear a chuckle coming from behind me I know its him. Without turning to look in my most businesses like voice asked. “What is so funny?” “Does this amuse you?” his chuckle turns in to a loud burst of a laugh. At this point irritated I turn and said “What?” he response with “Why are you beating up the poor little tree?” “For firewood you idiot.” I lashed back at him

He burst into a fit of laugher, holding his stomach and laughing like it was joke. Like I had told him the funniest joke of all time. I stood up throw the rock to the side and stormed off, never have I been so insulted in my life. I am a woman of class. Where I come from, I am respected by my efforts. This immature man having the nerve to laugh at my hard work.

Moments I feel his hand on my arm “Wait”. He says “I’m sorry for laughing its just with all the dry wood around I couldn’t understand why you would be trying to cut a little green tree down. I mean you looked cute.” I felt the blood rush to my face. How embarrassing. “I just assumed you was taking you frustration out on the poor tree.” “Well I guess I was then”. I hiss back.

I look up and see a ship on the horizon. Are we about to be saved? I run to edge of the shore yelling and screaming as loud as I can. Of course, they cannot hear me. I run back into the forest grabbing the biggest tree branch I can find and struggle back to the water hosting this chunk of wood up and shaking it with all my might. Screaming more, desperately trying to flag down this ship. Suddenly its dawns on me Carlos is doing nothing. Just standing there watching. I scream at him. "Are you going to help me or not.” He response back saying, “They cannot see us nor hear us Priscilla”. Moments later the ship sails off until it disappears over the water. “you did nothing, you didn’t lift one finger to help and that may have been our only way off this island”.

“Well my dear I am not wasting my energy on that if we want to be seen we need to build a message in the sand to be seen by passing planes and get a fire built to be seen from the water. If you want to stand there with a tree branch waving it find by me but I am going to start getting rescue mission started.”

To be continued..
