A twin flame relationship is thought to be a real life fairytale. Meet someone that rocks your world, fall in love, and you live happily ever after.

Well, sort of.

A twin flame relationship comes in when you are ready to grow, often spiritually. The strong soul connection can help you see old patterns and release many decades of being stuck in the same old situations. It doesn’t always mean happily ever after though.

The mystery of the twin flame relationship is something many people are keen to better understand. Those who have met their twin, or believe they have, may have more questions than answers.

I have done professional intuitive readings for many years and one of the most commonly asked questions I get is about love. In the last six years, questions have been centered on twin flames. For such a popular topic, there is a surprising amount of conflicting information out there. To help with the mystery, here are a few things I have learned from doing readings as well as my own personal experiences.

What is a twin flame relationship?

A more apt name is twin soul. It means that the two share a soul signature. Some have described it as two halves coming together to make a whole. Yet, everyone is already whole, we do not need another person to come along and make us complete. Think of it more as another person that shares a great likeness to you, especially on the soul level.

A twin flame relationship will challenge you in some way

Even if they end up being your strong and steady throughout the years, the relationship will present challenges. It may be that being together is not accepted by your family. Or that by being together you have to make sacrifices, such as ending a marriage. Something that presents a big challenge.

One of the most enduring beliefs about twins is that the union will result in a happily ever after scenario. This can certainly be true for some, but not all twins are destined for this type of outcome.

Another purpose can be to help you change, heal, grow in a significant way. In this dynamic, the two often don’t stay together or even get together at all. Yet, the connection is made and it changes both people. More on this below.

Twin flames are not always available, and a relationship is not always the purpose

Building on the idea that the purpose is to change in a significant manner, the twin may come into your life to help you break free of the way you have been living. To see beyond your current set of limitations. You potentially offer them the same opportunity.

This is one of the most common things I see with twins in my work. I don’t think it’s because a large number of twins are not meant to be together. I believe it's because those that are stuck in this situation reach out for answers. Those that have a strong twin flame relationship don’t need as many answers. Some people may be stuck in something else such as a karmic relationship as well.

If a twin isn’t available it can be an agonizing experience. Often both partners aren’t available, perhaps they are both married. Whatever obstacle it is too great to cross, the actions needed to do so are never taken.

The purpose of the twin encounter was not to be together in cases like these but rather to open the heart to this great love. Through that process, many old wounds can finally heal. Wounds and the patterns they create need exposure in order to heal. They need to surface. The twin experience allows the heart to love again, open, and heal.

Twin flames are a mirror to one another

One of the surest signs you have met your twin is if you are going through the same lessons. This telltale sign will mean that areas that you struggle in, like jealousy, wanting independence, communication will be areas your twin either has struggled in and found peace with or is still struggling in.

Both twins are not always on the same page with lessons. You may have dealt with your own tendency to be jealous but your twin still needs to work through it. You can support one another in this way. The lessons are shared, even if you are in different stages of the learning process.

Sometimes it can be hard to accept what you see in the twin flame mirror. Some people can be very critical of behavior in others that they don’t recognize as having themselves. The twin flame mirror effect helps both partners see themselves reflected in one another. Yes, it will look a little different, this is, after all, another person they have a different personality, different life circumstances, but look deeper than this. The twin flame relationship is complex but making it more so the purpose can vary greatly from couple to couple. One thing to be certain of, the twin flame connection always brings in changes and growth. These are not bad things although they can be hard to live through.

Remember the twin connection at its core promotes healing and wisdom. How you arrive at that point might be a bumpy or long and winding road, but eventually, you will get there.
