Rain Drops

Purity

Rain Drops

Tonight, I woke in sweats again.

No help from the thunderstorm wreaking havoc in my nightmares.

I creep in and out of sleep, my dreams don’t seem to stick lately.

I break my comfortability and roll out of bed,

Put on my snug slippers, and drug my self to the ladies room.

For a quick moment I drift into thought, and in these moments, I always imagine angels dancing around me.

Dangling me on the edge of bliss.

As I crawl back into bed, I lie awake.

Allowing the sounds of this worlds vibration to carry me and comfort me.

There’s a howling in the wind, a familiar whistle in the night.

This feels different, almost as if I am imagining it.

This feels light, it feels dainty, it feels easy.

I wait for the leaves to trickle down my bedside window,

And for the dewy clouds to consume the midnight sky.

The moon seems fickle.

The crickets have all gone.

The rain slowly calms,

And at last, a refreshing drizzle.

I can’t seem to seep back into a peaceful somber,

No matter how perfect this moment seems, something tells me to wander.

My eyes are heavy, but a sight it is witnessing the midst float just before dawn.

I jerk myself out of bed and head downstairs to grab my rainboots.

Trying not to slam the door, I tip-toe out and rush past the dog hatch.

I doubled back because I didn’t see Nadene, so I head towards the barn yard.

Just before opening the door, I soak in the drops from the rain as they drip off my skin.

I can feel the gracefulness of mother earth showering me with blessings.

I unlocked the barn door and somehow,

I was nowhere near surprised to find Nadene sleeping in the chicken pen buried headfirst in a haystack.

I grabbed a blanket from the front bin by the entrance and joined the bales of hay in the corner of the chicken pen.

Nadene popped herself out of her hay hole, snuggled up beside me and I closed my eyes to let my mind wonder.

I Imagine walking on a cloud and greeting the unknown.

Letting the path of my imagination form.

I follow without question, lost in the desire of purity.

I am met by a dove.

Mesmerizing me with a silent coo.

Here, I hear the whispers of my ancestors from past generations leading me to new destinations.

To a place where I feel free.

I suppose, what if this were that someone or something, here or there to guide me.

As I tremble back down to reality from my most decedent thoughts,

There’s a single pitched screech echoing in the distance.

Slightly offsetting, but more so a thrill.

I shake back into the now and noticed that the rain had completely stopped.

I grabbed Nadene, wrapped her in my blanket and headed back to my bedroom.

I bury Nadene at the foot of my bed and cozy into my blankets.

I close my eyes to try and drift out of consciousness.

Slightly in between worlds,

My eyes barely shut,

I spot a white barn owl in my peripheral shifting across the window seal,

And in that moment, I felt an unknown familiarity.

I remember as a child my dreams would be so vivid and when I would wake it was like an entirely different world.

When I would recite my dreams, I realized a small white barn owl had almost always made an appearance.

Could this possibly be, that something or someone was always there to guide me?

But this time in the flesh.

No jaded memories,

No wishful tomorrows,

All here in the now.
