Passions That Have No Bounds

A Boy Named Ryan & Snowcones!

By ClaireAnne CollinsPublished 5 years ago 3 min read
This is one of the things that he looks forward to every year. It is a very special place for him.

My son Ryan, oh I love him to the moon and back. He was born on October 8, 2005 and was a little sweetie. He did cry alot but loved the vacuum cleaner running so I would turn that on to I guess calm or sooth him and he would stop. Milestones came quickly for him and I thought oh this one is going to be so darn smart. There was an issue with one of the milestones though we would come to find out... his talking..

Ryan was born Autistic so not knowing this it was a little frightening to watch each passing year go by with not one word formed at all...mom..ball...no.. such simple words not said broke my heart everyday. How frustrating for a child to WANT so badly to speak and see it in his eyes, face, his whole body get so very frustrated because he can not say a simple word.

We took the necessary steps and decided on speech therapy as well as medication to help him and patiently waited for him to get some words formed, by this time he was in school only that was not really going so great. Ryan easily would get frustrated with the schoolwork because it took him longer to understand what was being taught then kids more up to speed, as well as having a hard time talking and getting out what he was trying to say.

As the years went on Ryan ended up being labeled a problem by the teachers and bullied by his classmates. I felt very sorry for my sons early years due to being Autistic. One thing that will never be forgotten was his class picture in kindergarten, a smiling, happy, eager to make friends and enjoy being a little boy to the fourth grade picture of him standing there with sadness in his eyes and a straight line across his face instead of a smiling happy boy that he should have been.

Ryan is now fifteen years old. He is a quiet and easy natured teenager who enjoys being alone in his room on the computer watching You Tube videos or possibly making one or two a week of his own. Ryan loves to also collect Funko Pop Figurines and has so many! Math is his favorite subject and when he rattles off a problem to me my head spins it is so advanced. In my opinion also something that he will most likely never need in his future... unless being a scientist is something he will be... he just really loves math a lot.

I know for a fact that one of his favorite things in the world is for the snowcone shack to open up around Labor Day every year. One thing about autistic children or adults is a definite... routine is key to their happiness. This year his first one he chose was Rock n Roll. I chose Banana w cream on top, it was delicious! I love going there with him and watching the excitement that has never left since we started.

Ryan to me is a very special young man. He is very considerate, kind, giving, loving, and no matter how long I make him wait when we are to be headed somewhere once in awhile laid back enough that he is fine with it, always fine with everything. The boy since he was born has hardly unless it was not being able to get out of his mouth the words he needed to complains about anything. I felt the need to return the favor to such a wonderful human being.

Last week I sent in my payment to copyright a children's picture book I have written in honor of his love for the snow cone shack. I want the world to know what a great kid he is and one of his passions in life. I will be sending it to Amazon as an e-read as soon as I get the layout of pictures completed and am so very excited to share this book with children and parents who are looking for something new to read while getting ready for bed, on a long car ride, bringing their favorite book to school for storytime, anywhere basically. It will be for digital as well as print on demand if they love it so much and would like a physical copy made that could be enjoyed for years to come with their kids.

Ryan is very excited with this happening, as he should!! He inspired it out of me! I hope my passion as well as his gets considered a great honor.
