One Love, Two Grave's

A Love too Silent, a goodbye too late

By Ameer GullPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

It felt as though even nature was weeping.

Far away, by a window in London, Emily sat reading Edward’s letter:

> "If love has killed me, then know that I am fortunate… because loving Bella was the truest act of my life."

---

When Edward went to England to study, Bella grew up waiting for him every day.

When he returned, he was now educated, serious, and slightly arrogant.

But Bella's smile was still the same — simple, honest, and only for Edward.

When Bella's parents sent a proposal to Edward’s family, the reply was: “We are aristocrats, and she is a farmer's daughter? This proposal is beneath our dignity.”

Edward — from whom Bella awaited a single word, a gesture, a nod — remained silent.

He did not refuse, nor did he defend her.

Bella was shattered. Her love, her trust, her whole world… broken into pieces.

Under the weight of pride and honor, she agreed to marry Lord William Charles —

An older merchant, who had status, but could never understand the sparkle in Bella’s eyes.

Edward buried himself in solitude, cigarettes, and silence.

That night, when Bella was getting married, Edward sat alone in his library,

listening to the rain — as if nature itself was crying with him.

A few months later, Edward moved to London.

There, in a dance hall, he met Emily Rose — a beautiful but lonely woman,

a source of entertainment for others, yet inside, yearning for true love.

Emily saw in Edward the same pain she had carried for years.

She began to love him selflessly, tried to bring peace to his nights —

but Edward’s heart was buried elsewhere, with someone else.

“Do you love me?”

Emily asked one night.

Edward smiled faintly and replied:

“Love? That was buried with Bella… what remains now is just a habit — a habit of pain.”

Years passed.

Edward became addicted to alcohol and loneliness.

Then one day, news arrived — Bella was ill.

His heart stood still.

He set off for home immediately.

He reached the town, stood at Bella’s doorstep,

but didn’t have the courage to go inside.

He simply sat outside — it was raining, and his soul was drenched too.

From afar, Bella saw Edward.

Her heart nearly burst.

She ran toward the door —

But it was shut.

“You will not go outside, Bella. He is now part of your past.”

Her husband ordered.

Bella stood crying behind the door,

while outside, Edward lay on the ground and softly said:

“Bella… forgive me…”

A final tear slipped from his eyes.

A faint, incomplete smile touched his lips —

Perhaps Bella's memory had embraced him one last time…

And then he fell silent — forever.

When Bella finally came out, it was too late.

Edward's body had grown cold.

Bella sat by his feet, placed his face in her lap, and wept bitterly.

“If you had just called me once… just said the word, I would’ve left everything and come to you, Edward…”

The rain had stopped.

Drops still fell from the trees —

As if nature itself was crying.

Far away, by a window in London, Emily sat reading Edward’s letter:

> "If love has killed me, then know that I am fortunate… because loving Bella was the truest act of my life."

Epilogue

One love… two lives… three silences.

Nothing was said, nothing was understood —

Only time remained silent…

And in that silence… everything was spoken.
