Maybe You Too Can Become a Superhero Like Ironman With the Right Push
What we need sometimes is just a push. A simple action can put things in motion and topple the biggest domino. It all just starts with a push.

How do we push each other or ourselves to succeed or just keep going? Whatever drives us to succeed matters, whether it's a small push or a big push. Any push goes a long way. Think of the time you were a small child on a swing. you didn’t know how to get going, weren’t strong enough and legs weren’t long enough to create locomotion. you would get frustrated, cry, kick, scream or just yell out for help. You would ask for a push. We all needed a push at some point and asking for help was encouraged.
Eventually, even when we did learn to push ourselves, there were always those times when a healthy push really put us into that steady rhythm. After that healthy push, we had it from there and the sky felt like it could be reached because we had all the momentum in the world. The impossible felt possible now.
As years passed and we grew up things with the push haven’t changed all that much. Yes you are a bit older and maybe can handle the swing all on your own. However, maybe what has changed is that you fell off the swing and have a hard time recovering the swing. When you do find it, you are in rough shape, you realize that a healthy push once again would be helpful right now. Just like old times.
This is all of course metaphorically and analogically speaking now, but follow me on this journey as I myself push the keys on my keyboard to make sense of all this. By the end of this diary entry you will have a better understanding of the thoughts that my brain is making my fingers type out. I promise to push you into the light if at all possible.
Speaking of the light, let's go to the very beginning. We can go a bit deeper with this. As a matter of fact let's take it to where it all began for most of us, unless you were created in a science lab. I could totally go for a nice Scifi here but for the purposes of staying on topic I will just focus on the natural human process.
Remember the good old days when you were just a little sperm? I look back at those days as some of the fondest memories. Those were some nonchalant days. I don’t think we even had the capacity to think, we didn’t have ears yet so we didn’t have to listen to anyone complaining about how nothing is ever happening around here. We never had to worry about what we were going to eat that day because we didn’t have a mouth to shove food into.
All was great. Until a loud siren went off and you and your fellow brothers and sisters had to push to keep swimming towards that egg inside your mom. I would imagine it was probably dark in there too. One minute all these river eels and you are friends and the next everyone is trying to swim like Michael Phelps to catch that ticket to somewhere new. Yeah, you might not remember that part but that was your biggest victory, you pushed for a better life.
From the very first moment we were born most of us needed to be pushed, literally. Unless you were a C section baby you were pushed out by your mother. “Push” now those were some of the first words you would have heard as you were entering the world. “You got this, push, push, keep pushing, don’t stop pushing, push! That was the first time you also saw the light.
The push comes up a good amount in our life. Sometimes instead of getting a push we need to be the ones pushing others. Like a truck stuck in the mud we too mentally can get stuck in the mud. Sometimes we are lucky and we pull ourselves out, we push our way through or someone physically and emotionally pushes us to get out of our troubles or towards our goals. Don’t stop pushing yourself and others they say. For as long as we are alive we need the push in our life.
The push can be small, but a simple action can create so much motivation to keep goin. The energy started by a tiny 1mm by 1mm domino falling down will create enough force to eventually topple a domino the height of the Empire State building. It's powerful to think where our life can end up with just a grain of motivation.
There is of course the dark side of the push. Simply put it bad influences and bad habits. When we are vulnerable and get pushed in the wrong direction, we march down the wrong path. A path full of pain, drugs, jackals, suffering and darkness.
No one ever wants to fall victim to the wrong push but it happens so often in life. So many poor souls are pushed to the brink of destruction. Sometimes all it takes is for the right person, people to come along and push you in the right direction in life.
A good example is the actor Robert Downey Jr. He destroyed his promising career with a drug addiction, poor choices and bad people around him and a year in jail. He was quite literally left in the dumpster. Pushed in to the pits of rock bottom.
A miracle happened and it came in a form of love from a close friend, rehab and a powerful transformation. His carousel was spinning out of control. I am sure it wasn't easy to push it in the positive direction but once it happened his life took off and he gained a suit of armor. Not everyone is so fortunate but it can happen. Anything is possible.
The push is with us when we are on our way out, too old to fend for ourselves. But we still push ourselves to get out of bed. Push ourselves to see another day. We push to keep going. When we are in our eventual wheelchair or just a rocking chair unable to push our body any longer, we hope that someone will come along. We hope that someone loves us enough or is compassionate enough to push us in our chair and remind us that we are alive and that we still appreciate a simple push.
