Lucy and her little black book

By Mahmuda Ruma BegumPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

There she was, Lucy, sitting in the middle of her AP English class staring out the window into the sunlight, jotting something down in her little black book. At first glance it seemed Lucy was taking notes, she was always good at creating an illusion. However, when you come closer you see that it says "I choose to bring fulfillment to someone's life."

Lucy was smart but not the typical book smart. And unlike many of her peers, she didn't pay attention to the current circumstances. She had no interest in being invited to the latest parties, the hot boy in town or even the latest gossip that her fellow classmate, Ana, homecoming queen was impregnated by Jack, their AP film teacher's assistant, who was a college kid volunteering for the spring/summer. And, although she stayed aloof, somehow people found themselves gravitating towards her. She was popular but not in the mainstream type of way. They couldn't understand it themselves, they just knew there was something about her that made her special. Lucy understood this role a little too well.

See as a kid, Lucy knew there was something profound with the way she was connected to the world. She knew there was something almost magical. Anytime she'd wish for something, it'd come true. All she had to do was write it down. For example, when Lucy was a kid, she asked her parents for a bike. Her parents didn't have enough money so she never asked again. She was like that, even as a child, understood the reality of things. However, instead of feeling despair, she was still hopeful. She couldn't stop thinking about it so she ran upstairs and wrote in her little black book "I have a bike" and all she could do is think of this bike, riding her bike through the streets, going to the ice cream shop with her bike, her friends and her riding to school in her new bike. She felt exhilarated just thinking about it. The next day, she woke up and there was a bike sitting on her front lawn. Her father said, his boss gave away prizes for a competition at work and he had won this! She ran to hug her dad, it felt like a miracle but Lucy knew it wasn't a miracle and she had brought this to life. Or like that time when the wind was blowing so hard and it was chilly, and she stopped in her tracks and bought out her little black book and wrote "It is a smooth and easy day with beautiful weather and it makes me feel comfortable", next thing you know, the wind stops. Lucy understood she was gifted. Since then she had been manifesting everything into fruition and it was fruitful for her.

One day Lucy woke up and decided to walk to school. On her way to school she found Ana in the middle of the street, covered in tears. Lucy asked was was the matter. Ana explained her situation and how her father was upset with her so much that he had told her to leave home and never return. Lucy asked what about Jack. She had mentioned that Jack was unable to take care of her unless he took care of his school tuition first and he was in a financial bind. Lucy asked how much they needed and she said nearly $20,000. Now, Lucy knew when she wrote in her little black book things would usually come into fruition however, this time it was a little more difficult. You see, whenever Lucy wishes or hopes for something, it has to come from her heart. It had to be felt in order to come alive and she knew if it was felt with such concern and stress it would not come forth.

So Lucy had an idea. She decided to spend more time with Ana and Jack. She told Ana to spend her remaining days until graduation at her parents house. Initially her parents were hesitant but after Lucy explained the dire situation, they agreed. Of course, this new living condition came with a lot of ground rules, which Ana seem to abide by without any complaints.

While spending a lot of time with Ana, she became acquainted to her deepest desires. She understood Ana was more than just a flimsy cheerleader and cared more than just her popular girl image. She saw that Ana had dreams of becoming a creative writer for films and most importantly she witnessed how scared Ana was. This situation was not an easy one and that made Lucy feel something deeply. They connected on so many things. Its almost as if she found a sister to live with. Lucy took herself in Ana's shoes for just a moment and got out her little black book and wrote "There is enough abundance, $20,000 worth to take care of those whom I love"

Ana woke up next morning crying with joy! She said that her father called her and said they missed her. They wanted her home. Lucy although sad that she will no longer have a sister to room with, she was delighted to hear the news. Ana returned home that weekend and Lucy decided to go for her daily walk. Upon returning from her walk, Ana was on her doorstep with a smile of relief. She told Lucy that Jack took a state test, passed his exams and it allotted him $20,000. Which meant he could pay his tuition and buy them an apartment for the time being. Lucy hugged Ana, bid her farewell and ran upstairs and opened up her little black book and wrote "Thank You."
