Love letters can be wonderful affirmations of love and I was lucky enough to write and receive love letters with a partner in the navy. I always believed that written feelings show so much bravery, but also are such a lovely and romantic way of expressing your love for that special person in your life.

Here is a letter from my sailor.

Hey babe,

I wish I had you here with me. We'd have to share a super small bed, but I think we could make it work. We always make it work. And at least I wouldn't almost freeze to death every night. I was thinking last weekend about how much I missed having our coffee together in the mornings or how much I missed doing our studying together all day on Sundays.

It's amazing to think of all the little routine things we do together and how much I miss doing them with you. I remember glancing at you now and then laying on the bed with my laptop doing work and watching you across the room at your desk studying. My favourite part is always when you understand something or something finally works, you do this adorable wiggly dance for a few seconds and then turn to me and are so excited to tell me all about it.

All I know is when I'm with you even the mundane things become memories. I love our tickling fights - you are so adorable when you get annoyed, but I also just love seeing you laugh, playing with your hair, and all the other ridiculous things we do to each other. You're my spontaneity in a society full of routines. But also my rock in the sea that is our crazy world. Your smile is my favorite thing to wake up to in the morning and falling asleep next to you puts my mind at ease.

I was going through all our travel photographs and the memories that they bring back. Meeting you for the first time was so extraordinary that I remember how much we laughed months later when we told the other person how we both initially gave each other an hour for our date before we would leave. But there we were, seven hours later, laughing, enjoying cocktails and getting to know each other. All our travels throughout the world mean so much more because you were there.

Your sense of adventure is one of your most beautiful qualities and is one of the things I admire most about you. It is so rare to find someone so smart and accomplished that's also so spontaneous and fun to be around. You're so sweet and caring and I am so grateful to be able to call you my girlfriend. You're truly one in a million and I am so happy to have you in my life. I can't wait to see your smile in the morning and kiss you goodnight.

Missing you so much from here and I can't wait for us to be on the same continent, the same country, the same city, the same room in my arms.

P.S. Everyone was so intrigued that I got a letter when they were delivered in class and curious. I thought you'll enjoy hearing this.

Love you so much,

Paul
