The freedom to stay,
The freedom to leave.
The freedom to say,
The freedom to keep silent.
Freedom from oppression,
Freedom from transgressions.
Freedom from expectations,
Freedom from possession.
The freedom of expression,
The freedom of information.
Freedom of speech,
Freedom of the press.
Freedom in spirit
The freedom to choose
The freedom that comes with saying "No"
The freedom we hold when we refuse to let go.
Freedom for the future,
Freedom from the past,
Freedom in the present.
Freedom be, at long last.
The freedom we stand for,
The freedom we fight for,
The freedom to fight.
Freedom to live in peace, our sacred right.
The inextinguishable torch we carry within. Too often under attack by those who do not value and refuse to understand. Those that have resigned their own sanctity in favor of power through aggression, possession, and oppression. Those that seek to undermine and destroy. Those threatened by the power of our sovereignty, our rights as humans.
Freedom is not a privilege, though because it is not equally available to everyone on earth, it is erroneously touted as such. Freedom is not a product, though too commonly we see it being shamelessly sold back to us. Make no mistake, anyone or anything selling "freedom" is a liar and a thief.
Freedom is not defined by your background, nationality, or country of origin. Freedom is precious, as those who have had theirs impeded upon can certainly attest, and those who have lived within the privilege of never having it violated, may very well take for granted.
To all the brave citizens of Ukraine, to all those trapped in the midst of decades-long civil wars, to all those subject to the whims of a tyrannical government, to those staring down genocidal assault. We know you did not ask for this. You know you do not deserve this, yet here you are facing this. Standing amidst violation of your rights.
Words are a meager offering in the face of such egregious infringement. Words do not protect against bombs, bullets or any invading army. Words, for now, are what I have to give.
Many cannot imagine what it takes to fight for freedom from tyranny. The courage and sacrifices that war so ruthlessly demands. Most hope we never have to find out. We offer our hearts, our minds, our prayers, our support in the ways we can, the ways we know how. From our place within the privilege of safety.
And from the outside, looking helplessly on, we stand in awe of you. We are brokenhearted and frightened for you as you fight for your lives. We are overwhelmingly proud of you for surviving horrors none of us should have to withstand.
Your struggle, your strength, your personal sovereignty is being seen worldwide. The world is watching you fight for the sacred rights of the future, as well as your right to peace in the present.
I wish I could say the whole world feels this way, I wish I could say that we all align with these truths. And where that the case, you would not find your rights, your sovereignty, your freedom under attack as you do at this very moment.
Although there are many who still allow the wool to cover their eyes. And the prevailing media neglects to fully expose so many atrocities. I see more and more people waking up, as denial no longer holds for them the same comfort it once apparently did.
I will continue to offer my words until I see no more wool covering any eyes. I will continue to offer my support until I see every person safe and sound, peacfully in their homes. And I will continue to offer my heart, mind, prayers, sweat and tears for every soul that makes the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom so others may live.
Freedom isn't something anyone should have to put up a fight for. But it is the one thing that is always worth fighting for.
