Big City Dreams

By Alexa SarfoPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

My morning rituals were getting very repetitive at this point, I would go for a 5am Jog, make myself a cup of coffee and then get hold of my laptop to complete the next chapter of my book. This ritual was the only thing keeping me sane in New York.

I always dreamt of being a writer and luckily for me my dreams came true this year. My name is Celia and I am a writer at cosmopolitan magazine in New York, I would say my fashion style is quite boisterous even though I write about feminism and sex. As I lay in bed admiring his beautiful skin, I couldn’t help but smile, I felt so lucky to have a wonderful boyfriend, a job I loved and the freedom to just be myself. Growing up my mother always praised me for my courage and willingness to be different, we had a great relationship for five years right up until she left me and my dad to fend for ourselves. After she left, my Dad stayed up late every night to tell me wonderful stories about what a great woman she was and how I looked exactly like her. I have never considered myself to be pretty, I have always classified myself as an average girl with plain features. As I gazed at myself in the mirror repeatedly, I couldn’t help but imagine what it will actually be like to have a total makeover, a total revamp of my current look.

Jake was every woman’s dream man, tall and handsome with an amazing head full of blonde hair. I had bagged myself a keeper and I couldn’t understand why he was so into me. Unlike me Jake came from a very privileged background, due to this he had a very laid-back approach to life. He was a carefree biker boy, who had so much charm and sex appeal. As I continuously gazed at myself in the mirror, Jake walked up right behind me and clinged on to my tiny waist tightly. “Jake I exclaimed “Get off me, I’m late for work”. He smacked me on the bottom, whispered something into my ear and slowly loosened up his grip around my waist. Jake always had a way with my body, he loved every inch of my slender physique and knew how to get me flustered.

It was a Monday morning and my best friend Solange was smacking her lips so loudly right beside me, she was sassy and incredibly sexy. I had known Solange for years, and we made the decision to move to New York at the same time in order to work for the same magazine. Solange got the job first because of her flamboyant personality and put in a word for me which later secured me my dream job. I was by all means grateful to her; I cherished our friendship so much. “Celia honestly you need to do something about your skin” I will take you to my dermatologist, remember we have got a big event this weekend and you have to look the part”, Solange said. “Ohh by looking the part you mean sexy? “I asked? “Yes we have got a reputation to uphold, She said as she rolled her eyes. My relationship with Solange was quite odd, we were very different, but we had a special connection that bonded us together. As Solange critically evaluated my outfit from head to toe, my boss walked in unexpectedly and interrupted our heated discussion. “Girls I hope you know how special this event, I expect to be on you’re A game and look the part”. She said quite smugly. Instantly I locked eyes with Solange and we both sighed lightly. “You don’t have to worry Anastasia we have got this, this event will be extra special. Anastasia was an absolutely stunning entitled young woman in her twenties, who believed that she deserved every bit of success she had earned. She was a savvy young woman who was well connected to the elite society. Her privileged background gave her a stepping stone ahead of all us, and she was always smug about it.
