Leo the Lion. The proud cats of the zodiac. Their traits range from pride and courage to sensitivity and egotism. If I were born closer to my due date, I would have been a Virgo, but fate deemed I should be a Leo and Leos wait for no one. So how do the traits of a Leo measure up to me?

The Good

The number one trait of a Leo is confidence; firmly standing up for their beliefs and front-running causes they believe in. Leos exude confidence and when coupled with courageousness, Leos face every challenge and adversity thrown in their path with fearlessness and conviction.

Leos are passionate and generous, especially in relationships. Leos go all-in with every relationship. They do not half-ass anyone but when the relationship is over, Leos pack up and move on.

Leos are expressive in their speech. Leos know exactly what they want to say and say it without holding anything back. They do not waste time mincing words or dancing around a subject.

Leos are loyal and willing to fight for those in their inner circle. This includes close friends, partners, and especially their children.

The Bad

The good traits of Leos can also be their downfalls. Over-confidence to the point of arrogance, expressive often turns into dramatic, and Leos, for all their displays, can also be lazy.

Leos are natural leaders, but this often turns into overbearing dominance. They have no compunction forcing their will on others and taking over, as they firmly believe their way is the best way.

Leos are often self-centered, and like to pamper themselves in any luxurious way possible. In fact, Leos love themselves so much that they often have trouble admitting when they are wrong.

Leos can be overly sensitive and do not bother to hide their feelings. When a Leo is upset, the whole world will know.

The Matchup

So how do I compare to all these traits? I would say I am 99.9% a Leo. I like luxury, I like to be pampered, and when it comes to things I am not interested in, I am definitely lazy.

I am fiercely loyal to my loved ones; I love to argue my points and express my opinions, especially on topics I am passionate about.

I am very sensitive and I cry a lot! My feelings are easily hurt. I cry for happiness, anger, sadness, joy, depression, pride... any overwhelming emotion usually comes out in tears. If there is one thing about myself I could change, it would be that. I hate that I cry over everything. I am not shy about showing my emotions, but crying over anger is often misinterpreted and tears coming out at every turn is just inconvenient.

I have faced many challenges in my life and I have not shrunk from any of them. Adversity has never slowed me down, and never will. As soon as a problem arises, I act. I usually do not take much time to think before I start enacting some kind of action plan.

Leos are also known for being adventurous. I get bored very easily and I am constantly seeking new ways to distract and amuse myself. This has been quite a challenge since the pandemic started as the options for entertainment have been limited.

Leos are great at expressing themselves and can easily convince others of pretty much anything. It is often said that Leos make great lawyers because of their expressiveness. I like to write and discuss topics with people I find intellectually stimulating.

Leos typically like to be the center of attention, but I prefer my audience to be very small. If there is one trait of a Leo that I do not completely identify with, it would be this one. I hate public speaking in front of large groups. I prefer to be the center of one person's attention.

I am 100% in my relationship and I love to lavish my partner with gifts. I consider myself an excellent gift-giver. I like finding unique gifts that are deeply personal to the recipient. One example: my partner was tossing out his favorite t-shirt because of the condition. I took it and had it turned into a pillow cover.

Luxury is my best friend. I have an extensive pajama and fluffy sock collection, far too many blankets for the people living in this house, and two boxes full of spa-inspired products like face masks, foot masks, scrubs, and lotions. I have five pillows on my bed, none of them decorative. In fact, my bed is covered in three different sections of blanket layers: one layer has two, one layer has three, and the last layer has four blankets so I can easily transition during the night based on the temperature. I keep a bottle of water nearby at all times so I can stay hydrated and I like to set myself up with snacks before settling into a movie or video game. Everything is setup for my comfort and when someone in my house is sick, I turn my pampering talents on them.

At the end of the day, the good, the bad, and all the ugly crying definitely makes me a Leo. And quite honestly, I am proud of that.
