In Case You Were Wondering...Who am I?

I introduce myself and invite you to join me on my literary journey- despite no one having asked.

Hello everyone, my name is Marci Wilson, and I am a major book nerd.

Books have been my passion through my childhood and into my adult life, and while my story isn't exactly original, I feel the need to share it here. I was never the most social of children- while I had friends, books have kept me company through many lonely situations. As a child, going to the library was always perceived as a reward due to the number of times my mother has said "Get your housework done and then we can go to the library later" which always prompted my sister and me to speed through the rest of our chores. We would then get to spend the rest of the evening curled up with a stack of books, and to this day I cannot think of a better way to pass the time.

I have carried that positive connotation to books with me as I have grown and developed into someone who just recently bribed myself with getting a library card in my new town if I made it through the work day (I am a firm believer that you don't actually live somewhere until you have a library card there). My first job as a teenager was actually working in my hometown library as a desk clerk for the last three hours of the day after school. I loved that job, and it showed me just how much a library is the center of a community. People, no matter where they are from or what they are trying to accomplish, always gravitate toward the library. I don't think there is anywhere else in the world that you could get asked so many different questions in just one shift. Librarians truly are the heroes of the community, and I have so much gratitude for a resource as vital as a library being free for everyone. To this day, I try to be as involved in the library and the community as I can be.

Fate has blessed me not only with the world's greatest first job, but also friends that are just as passionate about books as I am. What we are currently reading is an ongoing conversation between a coworker and I -despite the fact that we both work in a dental office and no one else around us fully understands the hype around used book stores like we do. But what can I say, book enthusiasts always have a way of finding each other.

Recently I have thought about what it is that I truly want to do in life (a thought spiral I am aware many others in their early twenties find themselves stuck in). There are so many things one can do with their life, and picking just one direction is a very hard thing to do. So I decided to do something that I can incorporate my love for books into, even just as an activity that I enjoy outside of my regular day job. I want to widen the literary conversation to anyone who is willing to listen, and that thought process has led me here. I want to start a blog of sorts to share my thoughts and opinions on what I am reading at the moment. I want this series to be a collection of reviews for books I have read, as well as talking about how the books I am reading are shaping how I live my life and see the world.

I genuinely hope you will embark on this journey with me, and in case you were wondering...

I'll see you soon where I will be discussing Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven!
