I Need the Lore for Numberblocks

ADHD Thoughts

So I have three kids, the oldest being 4. They love this show on Netflix called Number Blocks and at first I thought that it was a cute and educational show just in the passing that I was able to see it, but one day me and my husband sat down and actually watched it with them and we had the exact same thought…wtf is this show?

So the show is about these sentient blocks that combine to show bigger numbers and it teaches children numbers and math and on the surface (or honestly to any neurotypical person) that’s all there is to the show. To me and my husband, we instantly thought about how the consciousness of all the blocks (because they all start at one) and if they combine to form just one personality or if there are multiple consciousness that are being held captive inside the mind of the “main” one, still aware of everything that’s going on but not able to do anything about it. Once they split, do they keep the memories from when they were combined? Do they forget and wake up in a different area with no memory of what happened?

Another thing that I was thinking of was do the blocks have to consent to combining or is it something that the stronger one can take over? So at the time I was re-watching Supernatural for the who-knows-how-many-th time and it got me thinking on if the possession was more like the angels or demons. See the angels have to have permission to take over a host whereas the demons can just take who and what they want. If they are more like the demons, then can one number block just try to seize power and start absorbing more and more blocks until they reach the ultimate power?

My last main thought about this whole show (there might be more later) is if they have a type of “religion” where they talk about their own creation. So in the first episode, there is just one block and after doing a little song about the number one, it starts getting lonely. After another little bit, a magic mirror appears and the reflection of the block comes out of the mirror and then there were two. Do they have their own stories and lore about their creation? So they tell tales if the One (with a capital “O”) and the original magic mirror? There are more mirrors later on, so are those built or did they just appear as well?

Overall it is a cute show for kids, but after having my own little thought session I know two things for sure; that I need some lore before I start spiraling and inventing my own lore every time my kids watch this show, and that my husband might be a little more neurospicy than originally thought even though he didn’t go as deep as I did.

I am aware that there are fandoms for basically every show that try to add their own backstories and lore when there is none that is given to them, Harry Potter being one of the biggest ones that the author just decides to adopt into canon (that is a whole rant in of itself), but I don't see a lot for this show specifically. Is it not as popular outside of Youtube Kids or have I just not un-earthed it yet because I truly feel like this show is worthy of a backstory-writing fandom that digs way too deep into the meaning of a children's show than what was intended.
