‘Hypocrisy at Its Finest’: Niyi Akinmolayan Reflects on Adesua’s Viral Scene Amid Kiss Saga

Niyi is speaking in defense

By Jide OkonjoPublished about a year ago 3 min read

In case you've missed what has been happening online today, actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has been getting dragged after promotional video came out showcasing him and his co-star Bolaji Ogunmola kissing. A number of people felt the move was unnecessary seeing that it was a promotional video and not the movie; and others are of the opinion that both of these people are actors, and so kissing is part of the job.

In fact, Bolaji Ogunmola herself has come out to defend Daniel Etim-Effiong saying:

BOLAJI OGUNMOLA: Promotional shoot/content is part of an actor's contractual obligations. Were there cameras there? Yes.. tons of people there? Yes. Was he there as a husband no.. he's an ACTOR playing a character called admichi who's ridiculously in love with murewa. Was he professional? yes!

The characters are Admichi and murewa but how Bolaji ogunmola is the person you people are dragging I don’t understand!!!

Hate that this man who is an Amazing actor in a film i produced is being talked about like this!!!

Now, Nollywood director Niyi Akinmolayan is also throwing his voice into the conversation citing how a scene with Adesua Etomi went viral and brought more eyeballs than other types of sweet decent teasers that were used for the same movie. Here's what Niyi Akinmolayan had to say.

Speaking in defense of Bolaji Ogunmola and Daniel Etim-Effiong, Niyi Akinmolayan used his own movie promotion experience as an example to cite it as Nigerians' hypocrisy at its finest saying:

NIYI AKINMOLAYAN: This kiss thing reminds me of “The Arbitration”.. we cut sweet teasers and trailers but it made tiny box office money. A year later.. some dude posted a scene where Adesua threatened to fxxk Beverly’s husband six ways from Sunday. It got almost 10million views. We learnt quickly

Every year someone shares it. It was raw and a great scene..we discovered that’s what Nigerians react to as it jiggles their sense of morality. One jobless day I did a total count on social media and it had gotten over 50m views. That was the video we should have used 4 marketing

Here’s wishing Bolaji Ogunmola a successful run in cinema!! Give us more content plixxx.

You people are lucky I haven’t done my own romcom… ma fi kissing ba ti yin je. 😄😄😄

Here is 'The Arbitration' video:
