Protection of Human Subjects in Research

Research Ethics involving Human Subjects
The issues that have been discussed in this video relate to research ethics that involve human subjects, particularly in the United States. One important issue that has been raised is that fair procedures must be used in the selection of the individuals involved in research (Daigle, 2014). This principle ensures that the right principles are used in the selection of research subjects. It prevents the use of ways that may be fraudulent or manipulative which generally protects individuals from ending up as victims when it comes to selection of participants.
The Belmont Report (Part One: Basic Ethical Principles)
This video sheds light on the Belmont report and the reason why it was created. The three ethical issues that were identified in the Belmont report have also been identified. One important issue that has been raised is the principle of beneficence (Irbmed, 2011). Based on this ethical principle, a researcher has the obligation of maximizing benefit and minimize risk while conducting the research. One must ensure that the individuals are not exposed to risks that are harmful to them such as experimentation. This principle is important since it ensures the safety of the individuals that are engaged in the research.
The Belmont Report (Part Two: Applying the Principles)
This video discusses the various ways in which the ethical principles identified under the Belmont Report are applied. One important issue that has been raised is that the risk involved in any research must be justified and the information on the risks and the benefits involved must be clearly stated in the informed consent form (Irbmed, 2011). This ensures that individuals that agree into the risk are fully aware of all the terms before signing the consent form. This is important since it prevents the exposure of the participant to risks that may be dangerous. In addition, by clearly outlining the risks and benefits involved, it ensures that individuals make decisions that are informed.
Guiding Principles of Institutional Review Board (IRB)
This video is based on the guidelines that were put in place by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) dictating how research should be conducted with respect to individuals that are involved. IRB was created by the federal government in 1974 to prevent the violation of the ethical principles that dictate what should happen when people are involved in research study (John Hopkins Medicine, 2015). One important issue regarding protection of human rights is that people involved in research should be fully respected. This principle ensures that individuals are fully informed about all the activities involved and that individuals participate voluntarily.
CARING CORRUPTED - The Killing Nurses of the Third Reich
This video comprises of a documentary on how the nurses and other medical personnel were involved in the killing of people in the holocaust. The nurses used their professional skills to kill the handicapped, the mentally ill and the infirm as well as conducting experiments on the people (Cuzik School of Nursing, 2017). The documentary stresses the need for medical professional to abide by the professional ethics and the need for the people to stay vigilant so as to prevent a similar incidence to that of the Nazi era. By abiding by professional ethics, it prevents the nurses and other medical personnel from abusing their power which ensures safety of the people.
