How to Support Your Community Over the Holidays
By: Paul Vavrinchik

The holiday season is a time of great joy and festivities. It’s also a great time to give back to the community. During this time, it can be very challenging for families and individuals going through difficult times. It’s a great way to celebrate the spirit of the season by spreading some cheer. Gain some ideas below!
Support Military Families
This time of year can be especially hard for military families. Through organizations such as Operation Christmas Spirit, you can help provide Christmas gifts to the families of our service members. You can also help veterans by donating to the VA Voluntary Service.
Support Hospitalized Children
While it can be very challenging for children and their parents to spend the holidays in a hospital, receiving gifts can provide some comfort and joy during this time. Give back to the community by volunteering at a children’s hospital or helping the families of patients at a nearby Ronald McDonald House. You can also help provide the kids with toys and financial support.
Donate Presents
Every child should have a gift under the tree this holiday season, and organizations all across the country are working to make this possible. You can also help by visiting a Toys for Tots or Angel Tree in your area. These organizations will provide gifts to children whose families can’t afford to buy them. Remember the kids in the foster care system by participating in organizations that specialize in this area.
Help the Homeless
In every city in the country, there will be individuals who will be without a home during the holiday season. To help those in need, you can provide them with food and basic necessities such as clothes and shoes. You can also help local shelters and organizations by donating money. You can make a significant difference in these individuals’ lives and help them rediscover the holiday spirit.
Spread Love to the Animals
To help the animals in need during the holiday season, you can adopt a pet or volunteer at a local shelter. Pets make excellent holiday gifts, and adopting them from a humane league is a great way to give back. Look into your local humane society for some volunteering options.
