How Rema and The Boys Tease Me Anytime I Sing Rubbish - Ayra Starr
Ayra Starr talks honesty in Mavin circle

MAVIN Records is arguably the biggest, most popular, and most successful record label out of Nigeria. They have been here over the years, and currently, they have a new crop of young talented singers including Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, Boy Spyce, Magixx, and more that are making waves around the globe with their music.
Because there are so many different musicians under one label, people often believe that there must be some kind of competition that exists. But according to Ayra Starr during a new interview, these boys are like her siblings, and she says that just like siblings, they are always very ready to laugh at her anytime she sings rubbish. She made this revelation during an interview on Afrobeats Intelligence when asked if she knew "Rush" was going to be a hit. Here's what Ayra Starr said.

Ayra Starr made the revelation when asked if she knew "Rush" was going to be a hit. Ayra Starr said:
AYRA STARR: I usually don't know. I'm the worst person to ask if something is a hit. But the funny thing is that the songs I doubt the most are usually my biggest songs. So it's crazy, "Bloody Samaritan", "Away", all these songs, I was like hmm, but they are all my biggest songs. It's crazy. So "Rush", after I recorded it in Lagos in my house, when I recorded it, I was like "god, I don't know if I like it oh! I don't know if it's nice". I remember I told Jazzy that "oh my god, I'm scared. I don't know, I don't think it's my style", I was just thinking. So when I made the song I was so unsure. Their confidence, I actually felt their confidence because they were so confident.
I remember I sent it to almost everybody. I sent it to Rema, and if I send it to Rema, I know Rema is going to be so truthful [laughs]. He will not cap at all. So I was like 'what do you think? Just tell me what you think', and he was like "I love this. This is hard. This is my jam". I was like okay. I played it for Crayon, and Crayon didn't even say anything, he just got up and was dancing. So I was like hmmm, so these people like it. These people that they will change it for me anytime. [laughs]
"Oh so you guys have this policy of honesty with each other?"
AYRA STARR: Yeah, they're like my guys. They're my friends. They won't lie to me. It's like having siblings. Will you lie to your siblings? You will laugh at them. If it was bad, they would laugh, they would just laugh at me. I played it for London, my producer, and I'm telling you these guys are the most honest people. They would yab me! But this one when I played it for them, they loved it.

That is such a funny, but nice, dynamic they have with each other. What do you think about what Ayra Starr said? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
