One of the major newcomers into the Nigerian music industry today is MAVIN Records' own Magixx. The singer in his short career already has a bona fide hit on his hands with Love Don't Cost a Dime and is also featured on the currently trending hit song Overloading.

During a new interview with actress and media personality Nancy Isime for an episode of HipTV's Trending, Magixx opened up about how he got his name, how his relationship to Don Jazzy really is, and also responded to an internet user who called him a one-hit wonder. Here are the highlights.

Speaking with Nancy Isime on Trending, Magixx was asked: "Where did the name Magixx come from?" He said:

It's spiritual because I feel like I've dreamt it in my past life. I feel like I've seen that name so many times in my head and when I was going to pick the name, I remember saying to myself that I have so many things that I can do. Because at the time I used to rap, I used to sing, I used to do a lot of artistic stuff, I used to even draw. So I just thought about myself as someone who is gifted in so many ways. The only way to encompass all of that was to say it's magical. There's a twist to it because I remember I was using Magic. I stumbled on someone else that was using music because I was seeing a show on TV and the song "Rude" came on and the guy was already using Magic! So I changed mine to xx and the x is for my real name Alexander.

"What is your relationship like with Don Jazzy? Are you guys friends or is it just like boss, whenever you see you see?"

It's cordial. I won't say it's (too exciting) cuz me personally I'm mostly to myself. But it's always a vibe. Don Jazzy, it's what you want to be with him that you'll be with him. If you want to be cool, he'll be cool with you. If you want to lie down on the floor and laugh, (he's happy to). He's actually like a great person and a great personality.

During the interview, Magixx was asked to read and react to an internet user who said about him, "Don Jazzy keeps signing different artists without a plan for them. This Magixx is going to be another Crayon. One hit song and a dead career from the very beginning." Reacting to the comment, Magixx said:

That's impressive (laughs). It's a matter of where you're going to. Some people, if you don't have sense then you allow things like this get to you. But if you actually know what you're doing and you have a plan. It's one thing for you to train for a match and it's one thing to appear at the match. It's one thing for you to read for an exam and it's one thing to be at an exam. So (time will tell), we'll see.

What do you think of how Magixx responded to that hater's comment? What do you think about his name origin story and relationship with Don Jazzy?
