How I Feel About Nigerians Comparing Me to Whitemoney - Efe

Efe opens up about comparisons

By Jide OkonjoPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

Michael Ejeba, popularly known as Efe Money was the winner of the 2017 edition of the Big Brother Naija show. It was the official return of the Big Brother Naija franchise after 11 years, and it is still hailed today by many as one of the best seasons of the show.

Since winning the show, Efe has gone on to pursue a musical career. He gas released a lot of songs and projects since then but hasn't yet found huge commercial success as was expected of him. Another housemate who won the show and has gone on to pursue a career in music is last year's winner of the show, White Money.

After his win, White Money went on to release his debut single called Selense, a song that was heavily criticized by many. In fact, the reaction to Whitemoney's music and musical career has been very similar to the reaction Efe's got as well.

During a new interview with Chude, Efe was asked about how he feels about the comparison between he and Whitemoney's career. Here's what Efe had to say.

Speaking to Chude, Efe was asked: "Did people's negative reactions to Whitemoney's music remind you of people's reactions when you released your music?". Efe said:

First things first, I don't want to come off and sound (somehow). If you know the word "absolute I dey my lane" or "I dey my dey", that's me. That's the reason why most people assume I'm introverted. I dey my dey. Like I'm so driven towards my music and everyday I wake up, I see where I'm going to. So I don't really know much about any other person. Lot of respect to Whitemoney, I don't have any opinion as regards all these things because honestly I no know nothing. Most important thing is that he has won and he's doing great to the best of his abilities, and he'll keep doing so. And one thing people fail to understand is if e easy, run am. But e no easy. So if this guy has gone this far to win this show, I mean, every year the auditions keep getting larger. People make more entries to get into the house and he came out as a winner, that is something to respect. Cuz in as much as it is looked at as "oh, it's just Big Brother", almost everybody is envious of it. As long as you're in the entertainment space, you also want that level of attention. So rather than tear somebody down, just support him. And I wish him the best in all he's doing. And I'm inspired by each and every one that has won after me and before me. So that just is what it is.

What a diplomatic answer! I would love to know what you think. What do you think of Efe's musical career, Whitemoney's musical career, and do you see a similarity in both? Let me know what you think by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
