This week was Nigeria's independence day celebration, and on the 1st of October, independence day, Pres. Bola Tinubu delivered a speech to the nation that has been the topic of conversation for many.

During his speech, Pres. Tinubu said a lot of things including acknowledging that “many of you struggle with rising living costs and the search for meaningful employment,” before reassuring citizens that “we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel.

He also said "This federal government will always stand with our people in their times of trouble" and "We are creating a pathway for a brighter tomorrow by ensuring that young people’s voices are heard in shaping policies that impact their lives."

Here's the video of Pres. Tinubu's speech:

All these are really sweet words of encouragement, but a number of Nigerians were still dissatisfied by the speech saying that the nice words do not reflect the times. One such person is Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo who is sharing her thoughts about the president's speech in a new interview with Arise Tv. Here is what Hilda Dokubo had to say.

Hilda Dokubo

Speaking about Pres. Tinubu's independence day speech given on the 1st of October, Hilda Dokubo said:

HILDA DOKUBO: I think Mr. President just likes to you know, maybe go by the books. People write statements for people, and so he's read it, but what are the actual things on ground? What is the reality of the common Nigeria? What is our reality as a people, as a nation, even as a product in the way that the British colonizers sold us off? What do we look like right now? What's our reality? That statement does not reflect our reality.

During his speech, Pres. Tinubu also talked about a month-long national youth summit, to which Hilda Dokubo said:

HILDA DOKUBO: Do we need youths to sit down and chart their own process and state what they will need going forward? Yes. But there is also a youth policy, so will they need to review it, and do they need to be in any place for 30 days to do this? I don't understand. So, there are a lot of things that when you sit back and look, it's like all they do is create distractions.
