My family and I were moving away from California to Cleveland. I didn’t want to move, but my dad wants to move away from my mother’s family. Mother wasn’t thrilled to leave cause she never wanted to leave her family side. Something happened before my mother and father got married that made the family dislike him. My little brother Jay said his goodbyes to his girlfriend; they shared their last hug and kiss before he drove off, leaving her with a sad heart.
When we made it to the house that looked fancy on the outside. The driveway was big, and it had five garages, a pool, tennis & basketball court, a nice size yard.
“Wow, this place is amazing,” said Jay with wide eyes. “ All the ladies are going to want me.” he pulled out his phone and was ready to take pictures of the house. I took his phone from his hand. “How can you say that when you just broke up with your girlfriend?” I said, looking at him with disappointment. He shrugged his shoulders. “I can’t be all sad and depressed about it forever, and besides, we all know long-distance relationships don’t work out for everyone.” he snapped his phone back quickly after he was finish. I reached for his phone again.
“Children, children, children, let’s not start this already; we just got to our new home, and you two are already starting a little feud. I’m not going to have this today.” Mother wasn’t in a good mood from the start. From the time we were packing to the flight, mom was silent on our way to the house. You couldn’t tell if she was mad or upset. Dad tried talking to mom, but Mom said nothing. I wonder what happened for us to move at such short notice. “Are you kids ready to see what it looks like on the inside?” said dad holding the house keys. The house had double doors when he unlocked the door. You would see a big chandelier hanging from the ceiling, a double staircase, and a massive kitchen and dining room.
“Now, kids! go pick your rooms….” before dad was able to finish his sentence, Jay and I run on the other side of the stairs and run on the opposite side of the hallway as the kids were gone exploring their new home. Mom and Dad were talking.
“I’m still inviting my family.” She looked at him as if he said no, it would be an issue.
“That’s fine. I just won’t be at the house, probably be at a motel and tell them that I’m at a business meeting or out of town. I’m trying to keep distance from your family. I know they don’t like me and they tell you to divorce me or why in the world would you marry a guy like me. I haven’t done anything wrong to you or your family and they're asking me about my past. ” said Dad.
“No, You will be right here. We didn’t have to move my family would have forgiven you eventually if I’m still with you. You are my husband. No matter what you do, they will always have their opinion about you. They choose not to understand you and just not focus on your history” For twenty, they have been together and have been married for two years. Mom’s family always had their suspicious about Dad. Dad has no other family members and was always alone. He never mentioned any friends but always said he’s been all over the world in back. When her family would ask about his friends, he didn’t give too much information to mom’s family. “ Babe, I’m just saying, no matter what others say about you. It only matters what I say is final.” Mom loves him enough to accept him for who he is and not worry about the past.
