Hating the world
Taking away someone’s freedom makes them hate humanity
On the night of 14–15 April 2014, the students of Government Girls Secondary School at the town of Chibok in Borno state, Nigeria had dreams and aspiration of contributing to their motherland. Some of the student wanted to study medicine, while others were interested in how mathematics is applied so they wanted to study engineering. They were preparing for their final senior secondary school certificate exams in physics. All of a sudden, masked men in army uniforms invaded their school compound and about 276 of the female student were abducted, taken to a no man land. Passing through sambisa, one of the most dangerous forest in Northern Nigeria, without their parents, brothers, sisters and friends. These girl were just 16 to 18 years old, there freedom snatch away from them.
As they walked into the forest, they were confused, they didn’t know what awaits them. Their future, their freedom is now in the hands of the most dangerous armed group in the world, a terrorist organization called boko haram.
Boko haram have caused havoc since 2010 in Nigeria, with their tactics in terrorizing the country through attacking the population, using ak 47 rifles and improvised explosives devices. They have killed over 500,0000 people and have displaced more than 1 million people in the northern part of the country. They girls were fully aware Of what this blood thirsty monsters could do for them in an attempt to escape. They now face impact of when your freedom is taken away from you.
As they arrived the headquarters of the this sect, their leader who was named abubakar shekau delivered a welcome address to them informing them about how the Nigerian government has been supporting the infidels and how they are doing God command through fighting against the Nigerian system to bring an Islam rule of law.
Some of this girls lost their virginity through forced marriage to the members of this group. They were train in combat and some them became suicide bombers against their will. How painful will it be knowing so well that you are dying by wearing explosives and all your dreams of studying medicine or engineering is ending so soon. They recall that freedom means a lot. They now know that only freedom will make you have a positive impact on the world.
Stephen Davis, a former Anglican clergyman, contacted three Boko Haram commanders who said they might be prepared to release Chibok schoolgirls and went to Nigeria in April 2015. He was given proof of life (a video of them being raped) and was told 18 were seriously ill, some with HIV. Davis got initial agreement that Boko Haram would release these ill girls. However, after three attempts the deal fell through when another group abducted the girls believing they could make money out of them and Davis left Nigeria. Davis commented that it was not difficult to locate the five or six main Boko Haram camps, and that he was able to find them on Google Earth.
Yes, some of the girls were released and there freedom gain once more. But at what cost? Will they ever feel free? how will they integrate back into the society as free people. Some of the them came back with children. A product of rape and forced marriage from a terrorist father.
Rehabilitation programs were arrange for them by the federal government. Some of the girls were even invited to the White House. But I asssure you that most of these girls will blame the society and the system for allowing them to pass through such hardship in life at an early stage due to loosing their freedom. They will begin to hate world and distant their selves from humanity. They know quite well what loosing someone freedom means in life.
